Denise Sigogneau-Russell
Denise Sigogneau-Russell (born ''c.'' 1941/42) is a French palaeontologist who specialises in mammals from the Mesozoic, particularly from France and the UK. She is currently based at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle. Background Denise Sigogneau-Russell completed her PhD in 1969 on therapsids - the forerunners of mammals - from South Africa, where she spent two years. In 1976 a Belgian amateur fossil hunter brought her a mammal tooth from a quarry in eastern France, and this inspired her to change direction and begin research on mammals from the Mesozoic.Kielan-Jaworowska, Z. 2013. Hahnodon Taqueti
''Hahnodon'' ("Hahn's tooth") is an extinct genus of mammaliaforms from the Early Cretaceous Ksar Metlili Formation in Morocco. Although originally considered to be a relatively early member of the extinct clade Multituberculata, recent studies indicate that it instead is a haramiyid. Fossils and distribution ''Hahnodon taqueti'' is based on a single lower molar found in Lower Cretaceous strata in Morocco. Classification Denise Sigogneau-Russell (1991) classified ''Hahnodon'' as a member of Multituberculata, but others later considered it to be related to members of Haramiyida. Borealestes
''Borealestes'' was a genus of docodontan from the Middle Jurassic of Britain, first discovered on the Isle of Skye near the village of Elgol. It was the earliest mammaliaform from the Mesozoic found and named in Scotland. A second species and was later found in other Middle Jurassic sites in England, but is now shown to be a different genus. A new species, ''B. cuillinensis'' was named in 2021, also from Skye. Etymology The genus name is derived from the Greek Boreas and Latin Boreal, meaning ''northern'', the Greek listís meaning ''brigand'' or ''rogue''. The specific name of ''B. serendipitus'' comes from the noun ''serendipity'', relating to making a happy and unexpected discovery by accident. The species name ''B. cuillinensis'' comes from the Cuillin mountains on Skye, which are near the discovery site, and the cusps of the teeth resemble the peaks of the mountains.
