Denis Lyamin
Denis Igoryevich Lyamin (; born 19 May 1979) is a Russian lieutenant general who commands the 58th Combined Arms Army. Biography Denis Igoryevich Lyamin was born on 19 May 1979 in Slutsk, Belorussian SSR, the son of a soldier. His father was soon transferred to Chebarkul, where Lyamin completed his secondary education. He was admitted to the Chelyabinsk Higher Tank Command School in 1996. After his graduation in 2001, he served as a platoon commander, company commander, deputy battalion commander, and battalion commander in Chebarkul. He saw combat and was wounded. Lyamin was admitted to the Combined Arms Academy in 2005, graduating in 2007. From September 2009, he served as chief of staff of the 28th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade of the Central Military District. Lieutenant General
Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. A lieutenant general commands an army corps, made up of typically three army divisions, and consisting of around 60 000 to 70 000 soldiers (U.S.). 90th Guards Tank Vitebsk-Novgorod Twice Red Banner Division (; Military Unit Number 86274) is a Russian armoured division. The division was formed by December 2016 in the Central Military District. History Establishment The 90th Guards Tank Division was reformed by December 2016 in the Central Military District, carrying on the lineage of the 90th Guards Rifle Division. The division inherited the awards and history of the 6th Guards Motor Rifle Division, the former 90th Guards Rifle Division. Ivan Ivanovich Popov (; born 30 January 1975) is a former Russian Ground Forces major general who commanded the 58th Combined Arms Army until he was dismissed in July 2023. Early life and education Popov was born on 30 January 1975 in a small farming khutor in the Don steppes, part of Danilovsky District, Volgograd Oblast. In his youth Popov aspired to follow in his father's footsteps as a border guard, seeking to enter the Alma-Ata Higher Border Command School, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union Popov applied to and was accepted to the Moscow Higher Military Command School in 1992. The 22nd Army Corps () is a corps of the coastal defence troops of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy. Formed in 2017 after the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, the corps is headquartered in Simferopol and controls units based in Crimea. The Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (russian: Военная академия Генерального штаба Вооруженных Сил Российской Федерации) is the senior staff college of the Russian Armed Forces. The academy is located in Moscow, on 14 Kholzunova Lane. It was founded in 1936 as a Soviet institution, based on higher command courses that had been established at the M. V. Frunze Military Academy, itself founded in 1918. An earlier General Staff Academy had existed during the Imperial period, since 1832. Students were, and probably still are, admitted to the Academy in the ranks of lieutenant colonel, colonel, and General-Major (one star). Most were colonels or newly promoted generals.
