Denay Jock Chagor
Denay Jock Chagor is a South Sudanese politician and the governor of Jonglei State since July 2020. Chagor is a Lou Nuer. In 2015, Chagor became the deputy chairman and chief of general staff for the South Sudan United Movement (SSUM), a rebel group part of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) coalition. Chagor also became South Sudan's Minister of Higher Education on March 12, 2019. After the death of Peter Gadet Yak, the founder of the SSUM, Chagor was appointed on May 14, 2019, as the temporary head of the movement. The SSOA was divided into two factions after a leadership dispute in late 2018, but in July 2019 Gabriel Changson Chang's Federal Democratic Party merged with the SSUM's faction and named Chagor as chairman. Jonglei State
Jonglei State is a state of South Sudan with Bor as its centre of government and the biggest city. Jonglei state comprises nine counties: Bor, Akobo, Ayod, Uror, Duk, Nyirol, Pigi, Twic East, and Fangak. Jonglei State is the largest state by area before reorganisation, with an area of approximately 122,581 km2, as well as the most populous according to the 2008 census conducted in present-day South Sudan's second period of autonomy. The boundaries of the state were again changed as a result of a peace agreement signed on 22 February 2020. In the 21st century, Jonglei State has been marred in ethnic clashes which the UNMISS estimated in May 2012 had affected the lives of over 140,000 people, and has been heavily magnified by the broader South Sudanese conflict since December 2013. South Sudan Opposition Alliance
The South Sudan Opposition Alliance is a coalition of political parties and armed groups in South Sudan that opposed the government of President of South Sudan, President Salva Kiir. It was formed in February 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by nine groups. In September the alliance acceded to a revised peace deal with the government that also included the main rebel faction, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition, but some of the member groups disagreed with the decision and split from the alliance. The pro-deal SSOA has experienced continued tension between its members, as well as with the government. Gabriel Changson Chang
Dr.Gabriel Changson Chang is a South Sudanese politician who worked in the Ministry of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism and was the acting Minister of Finance in the Cabinet of South Sudan and the Cabinet of Sudan from March 2007 to July 2007. He was appointed to that position in July 2011 and 2009 respectively. The Hon.Dr. Gabriel is also the chairman of the FDP South Sudan Federal Democratic Party and interim chairperson of SSOA South Sudan Opposition Alliance. On July 15, 2020, Dr.Changson was appointed the Minister of Higher Education. Dr.Changson has served in seven different ministries. In March 2023, Dr. Changson led the Federal Democratic Party with a call for free political space, peace and encouraging citizens to produce their own food and avoid reliance of food relief from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan and Ethiopia. Akobo County is a county in South Sudan. Location The county is located in Jonglei State, in eastern South Sudan, bordering the country of Ethiopia. The county headquarters at Akobo are located approximately , by road, northeast of Juba, the capital and largest city in the country. South Sudan (; din, Paguot Thudän), officially the Republic of South Sudan ( din, Paankɔc Cuëny Thudän), is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia, Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Kenya. Its population was estimated as 12,778,250 in 2019. Nuer People
The Nuer people are a Nilotic ethnic group concentrated in the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan. They also live in the Ethiopian region of Gambella. The Nuer speak the Nuer language, which belongs to the Nilotic language family. They are the second largest ethnic group in South Sudan. The Nuer people are pastoralists who herd cattle for a living. Peter Gatdet Yak (1958 – 15 April 2019) or Peter Gadet was a Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) general who became the leader of the South Sudan Liberation Army (SSLA), a rebel movement in South Sudan. Early life He was born between 1957 and 1959 in Mayom County, South Sudan. He was an ethnic Bol Nuer people, Nuer. Career Gadet began his military career from 1981 to 1983 in the Sudanese contingent deployed to help Ba'athist Iraq, Iraq in the Iran–Iraq War. South Sudanese Civil War
The South Sudanese Civil War was a multi-sided civil war in South Sudan between forces of the government and opposition forces. In December 2013, President Kiir accused his former deputy Riek Machar and ten others of attempting a coup d'état. Machar denied trying to start a coup and fled to lead the SPLM – in opposition (SPLM-IO). Fighting broke out between the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and SPLM-IO, igniting the civil war. Lam Akol
Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, is a South Sudanese politician of Shilluk descent. He is the current leader of National Democratic Movement (NDM) party. He is a former high-ranking official in the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), and subsequently became the Foreign Minister of Sudan from September 2005 to October 2007, when the Khartoum government offered the SPLA several other key ministries as part of a peace agreement. Early life Akol was born on 15 July 1950 in Athidhwoi, Upper Nile. He received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Imperial College London and taught at the University of Khartoum.
