Den Glider In
"Den glider in" is a song written by Peter Karlsson, acting as fight song for the Sweden men's national ice hockey team during the 1995 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship in Sweden. Nick Borgen recorded the song with the players, and released it as a promo single. The song has later become popular as played when the home team scores. The words ''Den glider in'' originate from a famous call by Swedish radio reporter Lennart Hyland. During the Sweden vs Canada match in the 1962 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship, Nils Nilsson scored the final goal into an empty net, sealing the Swedes' 5-3 victory. Sweden would go on to win the entire tournament. The song also became a Svensktoppen hit, charting between 29 April-6 May 1995, with a first position followed up with a third position. Nils Nilsson (ice Hockey)
Nils Erik "Dubbel-Nisse" Nilsson (8 March 1936 – 24 June 2017) was a Swedish ice hockey forward and footballer. Between 1954 and 1967 he played 205 international matches and scored 131 goals, which is the second-best scoring result, behind that of Sven Tumba. He won the world title in 1957 and 1962, finishing second in 1963 and 1967 and third in 1958 and 1965. He competed at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Winter Olympics, and finished in fourth, fifth and second place, respectively. He was the best forward of the 1960 tournament and was selected to the all-star team at the 1962 World Championships. In 2002, he was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame. Nilsson won only one national title, in his last season (1969). Yet he was awarded the Guldpucken award in 1966 as the best Swedish player and the Rinkens riddare award in 1967 for sportsmanlike behavior, and was selected to the Swedish all-star team in 1959, 1960, 1962, 1965 and 1967. Kirka
Kirill "Kirka" Babitzin (22 September 1950 – 31 January 2007) was one of the most commercially successful Finnish musicians. His career spanned from the late 1960s until his death in 2007. Previously associated with Ilkka Lipsanen's The Islanders band, Kirka went on to record a wide array of rock and pop music. Some of his most famous songs include Hetki Lyö (Beat the Clock), Leijat (Kites) and Varrella virran (Down by the River). His 1988 album Surun Pyyhit Silmistäni (The Sadness in Your Eyes) went on to be one of the best sold records in Finnish history. He also represented Finland in the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest. 1962 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 1962 Ice Hockey World Championships was the 29th edition of the Ice Hockey World Championships. The tournament was held in Colorado Springs and Denver, United States from March 8 to March 18, 1962. This was the first World Championship hosted in North America that was not part of ice hockey at the Olympic Games. The World Championships were in jeopardy of being cancelled to the political situation in Europe and the Berlin Wall. Sweden won their third World, and their ninth European title. Canada, represented by the Galt Terriers, lost only to the Swedes finishing second, followed by the host Americans. In the 'B' pool the Australian team defeated Denmark for their first victory ever.
