Den Fjerde Nattevakt
''Den fjerde nattevakt'' (The Fourth Night Watch) is a novel by the Norwegian writer Johan Falkberget published in 1923. The work was the author's breakthrough novel, is considered one of his main works, and is part of several selections of Norway's literary canon. The plot is set in Røros in the years from 1807 onward. The main characters are the priest Benjamin Sigismund, his wife Katrine, the sexton Ol-Kanelesa (Ole Korneliussen), the miner's wife Gunhild Bonde, and her husband David Finne. Benjamin arrives at Bergstaden at the beginning of the novel and quickly establishes himself as a popular priest. The sexton, fiddler, and blacksmith Ol-Kanelesa becomes his mentor. The development of his character and Christian faith to become a priest for the workers and peasants is one of two main themes in the novel. Aasta Falkberget
Aasta Falkberget (March 15, 1905 – March 3, 1983) was a Norwegian writer and painter. Family Aasta Falkberget was born in Røros, Norway, the daughter of the writer Johan Falkberget (1879–1967) and his wife Anna Marie Skjølsvold (1880–1960). She was the sister of the actor Magnus Falkberget. She was first married on October 14, 1926 in Røros Church to the pastor Aksel Sæsbøe (1893–1972) and she was called Aasta Vaarsnø Falkberget at the time of the marriage. That marriage was later dissolved. She married for the second time in 1940 to Sverre Alfred Fredriksen (1910–1990). Life and work Falkberget wrote small contributions for newspapers and magazines early in her career. Johan Falkberget
Johan Falkberget, born Johan Petter Lillebakken, (30 September 1879 – 5 April 1967) was a Norwegian author. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Life and career Johan Falkberget was born on the Lillebakken farm in the Rugldal valley in the Norwegian copper mining municipality of Røros. In 1891, he began to write his Christianus Sextus trilogy, though it was not published until later. He formally changed his surname for writing purposes in 1893, from Lillebakken to Falkberget—the name of the farm he then lived on (this was a normal practice in those days). His first work was published in 1902. In 1906 he quit his job as a miner and found a job as editor of the newspaper «''Nybrott''» in Ålesund. Røros
Røros ( sma, Plaassja, ) is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Røros. Some of the villages in Røros include Brekken, Glåmos, Feragen, Galåa, and Hitterdalen. The mining town of Røros (the administrative centre of the municipality) is sometimes called ''Bergstaden'' which means "mountain town" due to its historical notoriety for copper mining. It is one of two towns in Norway that were historically designated "mining towns", along with the "silver-town" of Kongsberg. Carl Fredrik Engelstad
Carl Johan Fredrik Engelstad (11 November 1915 – 1 October 1996) was a Norwegian writer, playwright, journalist, translator and theatre director. Personal life Engelstad was born in Hadsel as the son of jurist Sigurd Engelstad (1878–1916) and younger brother of archivist Sigurd Engelstad. He married Vibeke Engelstad, a physician. Their son Fredrik became a professor of sociology, and married professor Irene Johnson. Career Carl Fredrik Engelstad was hired as a theatre critic in ''Morgenbladet'' in 1945. He stayed here until 1960, the last two years as cultural editor. He was theatre director for Nationaltheatret from 1960 to 1961, and from 1965 he worked in ''Aftenposten''. The theatre was founded in 1912, after an initiative from Hulda Garborg and Edvard Drabløs. Fjernsynsteatret was a department of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) which produced plays for television broadcasting. It opened in 1960 (after about a year of experimental operation), and operated until 1990, when a major reorganisation of NRK took place.
