Den Hoorn (North Holland)
Den Hoorn is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Texel, and lies about 9 km north of Den Helder. History A prominent feature outside the modern core of the village is the white ( Dutch reformed) church, built in the fifteenth century to replace a wooden chapel demolished in 1409. The new church was ready in 1425 and 25 years later received a tower which would later also serve as a beacon. The three signal beacons for shipping were replaced only in 2008 by a modern tri-colour signalling device featuring oscillating green light on one side, an oscillating red light on the other side and a white light in the middle. Parts of the church were rebuilt in the seventeenth century. The Dutch Reformed Church (, abbreviated NHK) was the largest Christian denomination in the Netherlands from the onset of the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century until 1930. Dunes Of Texel National Park
''Duinen van Texel'' National Park (''duinen'' = dunes) is a national park located on the North Holland island of Texel in the Netherlands. All dune systems on the western side of the island and the large coastal plains on both the northern and southern points of the island are part of the park. The park covers approximately and attained national park status in 2002. The visitor center is located in the natural history museum . In 1927 botanist Jac. P. Thijsse made an illustrated book about the flora and fauna on the island, and pointed out the major environmental values of the island. Tijmen van der Helm (born 26 January 2004) is a Dutch racing driver currently competing in the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship with ARC Bratislava, and the 2022 European Le Mans Series with TDS Racing. Personal life Van Der Helm was born on 26 January 2004 in Delft, and grew up in nearby Den Hoorn, South Holland. Despite Dutch neutrality, Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands on 10 May 1940 as part of Fall Gelb (Case Yellow). On 15 May 1940, one day after the bombing of Rotterdam, the Dutch forces surrendered. The Dutch government and the royal family relocated to London. Princess Juliana and her children sought refuge in Ottawa, Canada until after the war. The invaders placed the Netherlands under German occupation, which lasted in some areas until the German surrender in May 1945. Den Helder () is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Den Helder occupies the northernmost point of the North Holland peninsula. It is home to the country's main naval base. From here the Royal TESO ferryboat service operates the transportation link between Den Helder and the nearby Dutch Wadden island of Texel to the north. Etymology Before the year 1928 the official name of Den Helder was Helder. The origin of the name Helder is not entirely clear. The name Helder may have come from ''Helle/Helde'', which means "hill" or "hilly grounds", or from ''Helre'', which means a sandy ridge. Postal codes in the Netherlands, known as ''postcodes'', are alphanumeric, consisting of four digits followed by two uppercase letters. The letters 'F', 'I', 'O', 'Q', 'U' and 'Y' were originally not used for technical reasons, but almost all existing combinations are now used as these letters were allowed for new locations starting 2005. The letter combinations ' SS', ' SD' and ' SA' are not used because of their associations with the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands.
