Demuth Museum
Demuth Museum in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States, is a museum dedicated to the paintings of Charles Demuth (1883–1935) located in his former studio and home at 120 East King Street. The museum offers a rotating view of a permanent collection which includes 42 Charles Demuth originals as well as artists and works that present a Demuth connection in the areas of theme, technique and epoch. Two recent exhibitions have featured Demuth contemporaries Alfred H. Maurer and Lyonel Feininger. The house was built c. 1820 and is a contributing property to the Lancaster Historic District. In addition to 10,000 annual visitors, the museum is regarded as an education center for students and scholars who access the archives and library for research purposes. Admission is free. Every first weekend in June is the annual Demuth garden tour, which includes the Victorian garden at the museum, and about twenty other town and country gardens from which Demuth drew inspiration. Charles Demuth
Charles Henry Buckius Demuth (November 8, 1883 – October 23, 1935) was an American painter who specialized in watercolors and turned to oils late in his career, developing a style of painting known as Precisionism. "Search the history of American art," wrote Ken Johnson in ''The New York Times'', "and you will discover few watercolors more beautiful than those of Charles Demuth. Combining exacting botanical observation and loosely Cubist abstraction, his watercolors of flowers, fruit and vegetables have a magical liveliness and an almost shocking sensuousness." Demuth was a lifelong resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The home he shared with his mother is now the Demuth Museum, which showcases his work. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall Academy before studying at Drexel University and at Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Christopher C. DeMuth (born August 5, 1946) is an American lawyer and a distinguished fellow at the Hudson Institute. Dana Andrew DeMuth (born May 30, 1956) is a former umpire in Major League Baseball. Umpiring career DeMuth advanced through the minor leagues to the Triple-A Pacific Coast League before joining the National League staff full-time June 3, 1983. He continued umpiring in the National League until the umpiring staffs of the American and National Leagues merged in 2000. He was a crew chief from 1999 to 2019. DeMuth wore the uniform number 32 throughout his career. His postseason assignments included 11 Division Series (1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017), 5 League Championship Series (1991, 1995, 2000, 2002 and 2007), and 5 World Series ( 1993, 1998, 2001, 2009 and 2013). Helene Demuth
Helene Demuth (31 December 1820 – 4 November 1890) was a German housekeeper who worked for Jenny and Karl Marx, and later served as the household manager and political confidante of Friedrich Engels. Biography Helena Demuth was born of peasant parents on 31 December 1820 in Sankt Wendel in today's Saarland. In 1840 Helena and her older sister worked in Trier as maids, Helena in von Westphalen household, her sister in the house of a soapmaker two blocks away. They only worked there for about a year, then Katharina got pregnant and both went back to St. Wendel. In 1843 Helena lived in St. Wendel in the house of her mother in Grabenstrasse. In 1843 Karl Marx married Jenny von Westphalen. Katherine Demuth
Katherine Demuth is an American professor of linguistics and the director of the Child Language Lab at Macquarie University. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales in February 2018, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (FSSA).
