Demtel International (commonly shortened to Demtel) was an Australian home shopping and marketing company best known for television informercials during the 1990s. The name Demtel was a portmanteau of "demonstration television". As well as launching the media career of presenter Tim Shaw, Demtel's ubiquitous presence on commercial television during its peak saw the name as well as various marketing tactics and slogans used by the company being adopted as tropes in Australian vernacular. History Demtel International was first registered as an Australian company in 1985, founded by Warwick Doughty and David Hammer, who had formerly worked with the local subsidiary of international marketing company K-tel. Tim Shaw is an Australian radio and television presenter, actor, journalist, author and businessman. He has hosted the 2CC the #TimShawBreakfastShow a Canberra talk radio program from 2016 to 2019. He is a Director of the National Press Club Board since November 2017 and a member of the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery. Career Television Shaw spent 2013-2015 as Thailand Correspondent for news and current affairs for Seven Network Australia. Beatle Barkers
''Beatle Barkers'' is a 1983 album released by the Woofers & Tweeters Ensemble on the Passport Records label. The album consists of dogs barking a parody of popular Beatles songs. The guitar and other instrumental tracks, performed by anonymous backing musicians from Germany, are very similar to the original Beatles recordings, with the animal sounds taking the place of the sung lyrics. In addition to dogs, performances by other animals such as sheep, farmyard fowls and a cat are included. All the animal sounds were sampled from real animals except for the howling dogs which were recorded by a dog impersonator. Production The album was a collaboration between engineer Roy Nicolson and producer Gene Pierson. Nicolson had begun experimenting with animal sounds on an E-mu Emulator I, an early sampler. Gene Pierson
Gene Pierson (born Giancarlo Salvestrin, 29 April 1946) is a musician, who had an early solo career in New Zealand and then in Australia. His 1960s and early 1970s songs, "Love, Love, Love", "You Got to Me" and "Reach Out", achieved local chart success in Australia and New Zealand. He launched AC/DC at Chequers nightclub on New Year's Eve 1974 and later became a publisher and music producer in Australia. His more recent business ventures include the acquisition of the Peter Lik Publishing Group, founding the Lifestyle Music label distributed by Sony Music Australia, and founding Music Hive, an online streaming service for retailers. Galaxy is a former provider of pay television programming in Australia via satellite and wireless cable (microwave) delivery methods. Galaxy was founded in 1993, and begin test broadcasting on 1 January 1995 via microwave transmission, making it the first provider of pay-TV services in the country. It was officially launched on Australia Day (26 January). At launch only two channels were fully operational, the local Premier Sports and international news channel ANBC. Digital satellite broadcasts began in September 1995. Galaxy was a joint venture between Continental Century Pay-TV and Australis Media.
