Demon Boyz
The Demon Boyz were an English hip hop group formed in London by Demon D, Mike J and DJ Devastate. They began rapping whilst in their early teens, performing at the Rebel MC’s Beat Freak gigs. Their big break came when they won a competition on Dave Pearce’s rap show, their prize being to perform live on stage with Derek B, Faze One and T La Rock at a gig at Camden Palace. Derek B – aka Derek Boland, quasi- A&R man for Music of Life records – was so impressed with the group that he put them in touch with the company’s founder, Simon Harris. English Hip Hop
UK rap, also known as British hip hop or UK hip hop, is a genre of music, and a culture that covers a variety of styles of hip hop music made in the United Kingdom. It is generally classified as one of a number of styles of R&B/Hip-Hop. British hip hop can also be referred to as Brit-hop, a term coined and popularised mainly by ''British Vogue'' magazine and the BBC. Rappers
Rapping (also rhyming, spitting, emceeing or MCing) is a musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates "rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular". It is performed or chanted, usually over a backing beat or musical accompaniment. The components of rap include "content" (what is being said), "flow" (rhythm, rhyme), and "delivery" (cadence, tone). Rap differs from spoken-word poetry in that it is usually performed off-time to musical accompaniment. The Herbalizer
The Herbaliser is an English jazz hip hop group formed by Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba in London, England during the early 1990s. Although currently releasing on their own label and having previously been signed to !K7 Records, they were one of the best-known acts from the Ninja Tune independent record label. They have released 12 albums, including two DJ mixes: one for Ninja Tune's Solid Steel series and the other for Fabric's Live Mix series. The Herbaliser's album ''Same As It Never Was'' was their first release on !K7 Records. Their latest album ''Bring Out The Sound'' was released in 2018, on the BBE label. ''Raw as Fuck'' is an album by the British electronic music group Freestylers. Released in July 2004, it was the group's third album. It is also the first full-length album release from the Against the Grain label. The remix album was released almost a year later. The album included breakbeat dance music, with tracks including the singles "Get a Life", "Push Up The push-up (sometimes called a press-up in British English) is a common calisthenics exercise beginning from the prone position. Freestylers
The Freestylers are a British electronic music group, consisting of producers Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey. They have released five studio albums and a number of mix compilations for, among others, Fabric and BBC Radio. The group took their name from their first sample "Don't Stop the Rock" by Freestyle, which they also sampled on Drop the Boom. Career Formation–Raw as Fuck album (1996–2004) The Freestylers formed in 1996 when DJs and dance music producers Matt Cantor, Aston Harvey joined forces. Simon Harris (musician)
Simon Harris (born 28 November 1962) is a DJ, producer, remixer and electronic musician predominantly known as the founder of the hip hop record label Music of Life and producer of most of its catalogue of songs. Originally from London, Harris is a producer of sample-based breakbeat and house music. As a remixer, music label owner, and producer, Harris has worked with Pete Tong, Simon Cowell, James Brown, Prince, Joyce Sims, Fatboy Slim, Paul Oakenfold, Tony! Toni! Toné!, War, Arthur Baker, Boyz II Men, Heatwave, as well as Steve "Silk" Hurley. Originally a DJ, Harris started selling professional audio equipment in London's Tottenham Court Road, then became a club promoter. In 1983, Harris was invited to become one of the original remixers for Tony Prince's DMC (now the world's largest DJ association). Music Of Life
Music of Life is a British independent hip hop and dance music label formed in 1986 by two influential DJ remixers Froggy and Simon Harris, managed by Chris France. Following several successful productions, one of which reached No. 3 in the UK Singles Chart (the Real Thing's "You to Me Are Everything") Harris and Froggy decided to launch their own label, they were offered a label deal by Morgan Khan (Streetwave) and the first release was a remix by the duo of Cerrone's 'Supernature' (his 'Music of Life' song was the inspiration for the label name). Within a few months Froggy left the label and Streetwave went out of business. Harris being active in remixing and production for many other artists and labels financed the label with his remix income.
