Democrats For Nixon
Democrats for Nixon was a campaign to promote Democratic support for the then-incumbent Republican President Richard Nixon in the 1972 presidential election. The campaign was led by the former Democratic governor of Texas, John Connally. Connally, who was serving as the United States Secretary of the Treasury, announced that he would be supporting Nixon for re-election and would spend his time until the elections working on behalf of the incumbent. A Democrat who had been Governor of Texas and United States Secretary of the Navy under John F. Kennedy, Connally formally announced the formation of the organization in August 1972. Polling cited by Connally indicated that as many as 20 million Democrats would cross over to vote for Nixon and invited "all those millions of Democrats who realize that in this Presidential election President Nixon is simply the better choice". Luigino "Jeno" Francesco Paulucci (July 5, 1918 – November 24, 2011) was an American food industry magnate, investor, and philanthropist. Paulucci started over 70 companies; among the most well-known ventures included his frozen food company Bellisio Foods as well as food products such as pizza rolls and the Chun King line of Chinese food. Early life A self-described "peddler from the Iron Range", Paulucci was born in the mining town Aurora, Minnesota. Paulucci's parents, Ettore and Michelina, had recently moved from Bellisio Solfare, hamlet of Pergola (Marche) Italy and his father was a miner in one of the region's iron mines. Leonard Harold Marks (b. Mar 5, 1916 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; d. Aug. 11, 2006 Washington, DC) was a director of the United States Information Agency. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He first worked with the Office of Price Administration, then in 1942 for the Federal Communications Commission before going into the private practice of law in 1946. His firm (Cohn and Marks) specialized in communications law, and Lady Bird Johnson's chain of TV stations were one of his clients. In 1965 he was named director of the United States Information Agency by President Lyndon Johnson. In December 1967 Secretary of State Dean Rusk and US President Lyndon Johnson discussed Marks as a possible appointment to the United Nations as US Ambassador. Frank Edward Fitzsimmons (April 7, 1908 – May 6, 1981) was an American labor leader. He was acting president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters from 1967 to 1971, and president from 1971 to 1981. Early life Frank Fitzsimmons was born on April 7, 1908, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, to Irish-American parents, Frank and Ida May Fitzsimmons. His father was a brewer who moved the family to Detroit, Michigan, in 1924 when Frank was 16. His father died of a heart attack when Fitzsimmons was 17 years old, and Frank dropped out of high school to support his family by working in an automobile hardware store. In 1932, he got a job as a bus driver in Detroit, Michigan, and New York City before becoming a truck driver in Detroit in 1935.
