The Democratic Left (Spanish: ''Izquierda Democrática'', ID) is a social-democratic political party in Ecuador. It is a former member of the Socialist International. At the legislative elections, held on 20 October 2002, the party won at least 13 out of 100 seats. Its candidate Rodrigo Borja, who was president of Ecuador from 1988 to 1992, won 14.4% of the vote in the presidential elections of the same day. Democratic Left was a post-communist political organisation in the United Kingdom during the 1990s, growing out of the Eurocommunist strand within the Communist Party of Great Britain and its magazine ''Marxism Today'' (which closed around the same time). It was established in 1991 when the CPGB decided to reform itself into a left-leaning reformist political multi-issue grassroots think-tank based on the party's ''Manifesto for New Times''. Its secretary was Nina Temple, the last general secretary of the CPGB. The Democratic Left Party ( tr, Demokratik Sol Parti, abbreviated DSP) is a Turkish political party, founded on 14 November 1985 by Rahşan Ecevit and Bülent Ecevit. History 1985–1999 The DSP, a social-democratic oriented party, was registered on 14 November 1985 by Rahşan Ecevit, wife of Bülent Ecevit, as he was banned from political life after the 1980 coup d'état. In 1986 Bülent Ecevit addressed the DSP convention in Ankara, declaring his support for the party. The address landed him in court for allegedly violating the political bans. The DSP was unable, however, to achieve a substantial showing in the 1986 by-elections even though Ecevit, despite his ban, continued to campaign at the party's rallies as a "guest speaker". The Democratic Left ( es, Izquierda Democrática, ID) was a Christian left political party in Spain. It was formed by people from the anti-Francoist opposition, like Gregorio Peces-Barba or Joaquín Ruíz-Giménez. The party had two main internal factions: the social democratic one and the Christian democratic one. History ID was officially constituted in April 1976 at El Escorial, under the leadership of Joaquín Ruiz-Giménez and José Maria Gil-Robles. The Party of the Democratic Left ( sk, Strana demokratickej ľavice, SDĽ) is a centre-left political party in Slovakia. It is the reformation of another party by the same name, which had been founded in 1990. The original Party of the Democratic Left merged with Robert Fico's Direction – Social Democracy, which had itself split from the Party of the Democratic Left, on 31 December 2004. A new party was founded, and registered in May 2005. The party's current president is Jozef Ďurica. In its first general election, in 2006, the party won 0.13% of the vote. In 2010 elections, the SDĽ won 2.41%, falling just under half of the 5% threshold for seats in the National Council. The Democratic Left Alliance () was a social-democratic political party in Poland. It was formed in 9 July 1991 as an electoral alliance of centre-left parties, and became a single party on 15 April 1999. It was the major coalition party in Poland between 1993 and 1997, and between 2001 and 2005, from which came four Prime ministers: Józef Oleksy, Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, Leszek Miller and Marek Belka.
