Democratic Coalition Of Namibia
The Democratic Coalition of Namibia (DCN) was a political party in Namibia. History The DCN was founded in 1994 as the successor of the Namibia Patriotic Front (NPF) which already had a seat in Parliament. Several members of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance and the Action Christian National also joined the new party. Election results The DCN contested the 1994 Namibian general election. After winning only one seat the party's sole representative in the National Assembly became party leader Moses Katjiuongua. Moses Katjiuongua
Moses Katjikuru Katjiuongua (24 April 1942 – 8 March 2011) was a Namibian politician, minister in the Transitional Government of National Unity, member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, and member of the National Assembly of Namibia. Early life, education, and exile Katjiuongua attended primary school in Aminuis, and from 1956 to 1959 the Swedish Confederation of Labour college in Bechuanaland (now Botswana). His political activities continued concurrently with his studies. After graduation, he went into exile to work in the South West African National Union (SWANU) office in Cairo, Egypt. From 1961 to 1962 he studied journalism in Magdeburg, East Germany on a SWANU bursary. Katjiuongua met Mao Zedong during a trip to China after 1963. From there he returned to Tanzania, again to work in the SWANU office. Democratic Turnhalle Alliance
The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), formerly the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), is an amalgamation of political parties in Namibia, registered as one singular party for representation purposes. In coalition with the United Democratic Front, it formed the official opposition in Parliament until the parliamentary elections in 2009. The party currently holds 16 seats in the Namibian National Assembly and one seat in the Namibian National Council and is the official opposition. McHenry Venaani is president of the PDM. Action Christian National
Action Christian National (ACN) was a white nationalist political party in Namibia (formerly South West Africa). The ACN was established in 1989 to enable whites to participate in the elections. It used to be aligned with the National Party of South Africa. In the Namibian parliamentary election, 1989 that elected the members of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, ACN won three seats. National Assembly Of Namibia
The National Assembly is the lower chamber of Namibia's bicameral Parliament. Its laws must be approved by the National Council, the upper house. Since 2014, it has a total of 104 members. 96 members are directly elected through a system of closed list proportional representation and serve five-year terms. Eight additional members are appointed by the President. Since 2015, SWAPO member Peter Katjavivi has been the Speaker of the National Assembly. Namibia's National Assembly emerged on Independence Day on 21 March 1990 from the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, following the elections of November 1989. 2004 Namibian General Election
General elections were held in Namibia on 15 and 16 November 2004 to elect the President and National Assembly. The National Assembly election resulted in a landslide win for SWAPO, which won 55 of the 78 seats with over 75% of the vote. SWAPO's candidate for president, Hifikepunye Pohamba, won the presidential election. Following his victory, Pohamba was sworn in as President on 21 March 2005 at Independence Stadium in Windhoek.
