Democratic Action Party (Panama)
The Democratic Action Party (Partido Acción Democrático, PAD) was a Panamanian conservative political party. The Democratic Action Party was founded by Bernardino González Ruíz, in 1963. It was formed by ex-members of the Popular Union Party. Conservative businessmen are among its leadership. Bernardino González Ruíz was a Panamanian politician and National Assembly deputy (1948–1952, 1952–1956, Popular Union Party), Minister of Labor, Social Welfare and Public Health in the Cabinet of President Roberto Francisco Chiari Remón. He was the brother of Sergio González Ruíz, who was Panamanian Vice-President (1960–1962) and the Popular Union Party candidate for President in the election, held in 1948. In 1963 Bernardino González Ruíz relinquished 1964 presidential aspirations and accepted the temporary post of the interim Presidency. Popular Union Party (Panama)
The Popular Union Party (in Spanish: ''Partido Unión Popular'', PUP) was a Panamanian centrist liberal political party. It was founded in 1947 by Sergio González Ruiz. Sergio González Ruiz was one of leaders of the Community Action (in 1920s-1930s) and Liberal Doctrinaire Party (in 1930s-1940s). In 1946 five liberal parties have allied within the Liberal Unification. Its five original parties were the Liberal Doctrinaire Party (led by Domingo Díaz Arosemena), Liberal Democratic Party (under Enrique Adolfo Jiménez), Liberal Renewal Party (under Francisco Arias Paredes), Chiarista Liberal Party (under Roberto Francisco Chiari Remón) and United Liberal Party (founded by died ex-President Belisario Porras Barahona). Roberto Francisco Chiari Remón (March 2, 1905 in Panama City – March 1, 1981) was the President of Panama in 1949 and from 1960 to 1964. He belonged to the Liberal Party. Before being president He was president of the Chamber of Commerce. He worked in the sugar company of his family with his father Rodolfo Chiari and brothers. National Opposition Union ( es, Unión Nacional Opositora, UNO) was a Nicaraguan wide-range coalition of opposition parties formed to oppose president Daniel Ortega's Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) in the 1990 election. Arnulfo Arias Madrid (15 August 1901 – 10 August 1988) was a Panamanian politician, medical doctor, and writer who served as the President of Panama from 1940 to 1941, again from 1949 to 1951, and finally for 11 days in October 1968. Throughout his adult life, he warned about the increasing influence of the military in Panamanian politics and vowed to reduce its influence. In turn, he was denied his presidential electoral success in 1948 by the military. He was removed from his duly-elected presidency three times by military coups.
