Democracy (Judge Dredd Storyline)
Democracy in the fictional future city of Mega-City One has been a significant recurring theme in the ''Judge Dredd'' comic strip in '' 2000 AD''. In particular, a number of stories published since 1986 have addressed the issue of the Judges' dictatorial system of government, and efforts by the citizens to re-establish democracy. Besides being a notable story arc in itself, the "Democracy" stories also had wider repercussions which led directly to the events depicted in the story "Necropolis". The stories include "America", which is regularly voted by fans in polls as the best Dredd story ever written, and is Dredd creator John Wagner's favourite ''Judge Dredd'' story.''Judge Dredd: The Mega-History'', by Colin M. John Higgins (comics)
John Higgins (born 1949) is an English comic book artist and writer. He did significant work for '' 2000 AD'', and he has frequently worked with writer Alan Moore, most notably as colourist for ''Watchmen''. Biography John Higgins was born in Walton, Liverpool. After leaving school when he was 15, he joined the army and, on leaving, spent some time in a commune in Wiltshire. He returned to Liverpool and, in 1971, resumed his studies at Wallasey College of Art. There, in 1974 he qualified in technical illustration, which allowed him to get a job as a medical illustrator at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. After getting his first comic book art published in ''Brainstorm'' in 1975, he drew the cover for '' 2000 AD'' No. 43 in 1977 and decided to go freelance in 1978, with an eye on becoming a comic artist. Necropolis (Judge Dredd Story)
"Necropolis" is a 26-part story featuring British comics science fiction character ''Judge Dredd''. Written by John Wagner and painted by Carlos Ezquerra, it was published in 1990 in '' 2000 AD'' progs 674–699. The story was the subject of extensive foreshadowing in the comic, beginning with ''The Dead Man'' (progs 650–662), followed by "Tale of the Dead Man" (progs 662–668), and finally three stories collectively known as "Countdown to Necropolis" (progs 669–673). It pulled together various story threads going back four years ''(see also Democracy (Judge Dredd storyline))''. "Necropolis" was also followed by a number of epilogues and other follow-up stories, and had repercussions within the ''Judge Dredd'' strip which lasted for years. Judge Kraken
Judge (or street judge) is a title held by several significant characters in ''Judge Dredd'' and other series which appear in the British comics ''2000 AD (comics), 2000 AD'' and ''Judge Dredd Megazine''. In the fictional future history of the series, the role of "Judge" combines those of judge, jury and police, police officer, thus avoiding long legal wrangles by allowing for criminals to be tried and sentenced on the spot.
