Demis Hassabis (born 27 July 1976) is a British artificial intelligence researcher and entrepreneur. In his early career he was a video game AI programmer and designer, and an expert player of board games. He is the chief executive officer and co-founder of DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs, and a UK Government AI Advisor. Early life and education Hassabis was born to a Greek Cypriot father and a Chinese Singaporean mother and grew up in North London. A child prodigy in chess from the age of 4, Hassabis reached master standard at the age of 13 with an Elo rating of 2300 and captained many of the England junior chess teams. He represented the University of Cambridge in the Oxford-Cambridge varsity chess matches of 1995, 1996 and 1997, winning a half blue. Themistoklis "Demis" Nikolaidis ( el, Ντέμης Νικολαΐδης; born 17 September 1973) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a striker. He was the forty second president of AEK Athens, and is considered one of the finest footballers Greece has produced. In his early childhood and teenage years he lived in the city of Alexandroupoli, in the northeast part of Greece. Demis Armen Ohandjanian ( arm, Դեմիս Արմեն Օհանջանյան; born 1 May 1978 in Manchester) is an English former professional football striker of Armenian descent. He played in the English Football League for Doncaster Rovers. Ohandjanian joined Middlewich Athletic in time for the start of the 1996–97 season. He had a brief spell with Curzon Ashton before joining Doncaster Rovers in January 1997. He made just one league appearance for Rovers, playing as a substitute in their 2–0 defeat away to Northampton Town. Released, he joined Macclesfield Town in February 1997, scoring on his club debut as Macclesfield won 2–0 away to Morecambe in the Spalding Cup.
