Demetria Hester (born ) is a Black activist, speaker, and hate crime survivor based in Portland, Oregon. She is a frequent organizer of and speaker at Portland's George Floyd protests, Black Lives Matter rallies, and vigils for victims of police violence. Early life and education Demetria Hester moved from Tennessee to the Pacific Northwest searching for a fresh start for herself and her two children. She first moved to the state of Washington, then to Portland, Oregon in 2014. She worked at a restaurant, studied at the Art Institute of Portland and become a sous chef. Hester is fond of the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants. Surviving a racist attack Hester survived a verbal and physical assault by white supremacist and murderer Jeremy Joseph Christian on May 25, 2017, while waiting for the light-rail train in Portland. Moms United For Black Lives
Moms United for Black Lives (also known as Moms United, or MU4BL) is an activist group based in Portland, Oregon, with branches in other U.S. cities, including New York and San Diego. The group was a fixture at the George Floyd protests in Portland; they wore yellow shirts, helmets, goggles, and gas masks, and they lead hundreds of people in chants as they marched to the federal courthouse. Danialle Karmanos is an American philanthropist, humanitarian, activist, and social entrepreneur. Early life and education Karmos grew up in Michigan in the Dearborn area. She graduated from Dearborn High School in 1991. She received her undergraduate degree from Wayne State University in 1998. Teressa Raiford
Teressa Raiford (born 1970) is an American activist and politician in Portland, Oregon, Portland, Oregon. She founded the local Black people, Black-led non-profit Don't Shoot Portland. Activism When Raiford was a child, her grandparents' restaurant was the site of a racist action in which Portland Police Bureau, Portland police officers threw dead possums onto the business' doorstep. Don't Shoot Portland, also called Don't Shoot PDX, is a Portland, Oregon-based accountability group formed by Black Lives Matter supporter Teressa Raiford to scrutinize actions of the Portland Police Bureau.
