Delphi
Delphi (; ), in legend previously called Pytho (Πυθώ), in ancient times was a sacred precinct that served as the seat of Pythia, the major oracle who was consulted about important decisions throughout the ancient classical world. The oracle had origins in prehistory and it became international in character and also fostered sentiments of Greek nationality, even though the nation of Greece was centuries away from realization. Ancient Greek Dialects
Ancient Greek in classical antiquity, before the development of the common Koine Greek of the Hellenistic period, was divided into several varieties. Most of these varieties are known only from inscriptions, but a few of them, principally Aeolic, Doric, and Ionic, are also represented in the literary canon alongside the dominant Attic form of literary Greek. Likewise, Modern Greek is divided into several dialects, most derived from Koine Greek. Delphian (typeface)
Delphian is an all-caps display typeface created by R. Hunter Middleton in 1928 and published in metal by Ludlow. A digital version was issued by Monotype. Delphian has a modern, yet classic style and is notable for having no lower-case characters. One website commented on Middleton's font, "His tour de force, Delphian Open Title, invokes that rare intellectual response, admiration." It is seldom used today, except to evoke an art deco aura. The Delphian League was an English amateur football league covering Greater London and the surrounding area. The league was formed in 1951 with 14 clubs and was effectively a level below the Corinthian League. Delphian Records
Delphian Records is an Edinburgh-based independent classical record label, founded in 2000 by two students of the University of Edinburgh, Paul Baxter and Kevin Findlan with start-up funding from two private individuals, and support from the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust. In 2014, Delphian Records was named Gramophone Magazine's 'Label of the Year'. The label lends a special focus on chamber and instrumental music, and is particularly involved in the recording and promoting of new music. Following a substantial grant from the Scottish Government, the label released its first part-orchestral record in 2008 with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Garry Walker. The Delphian School
The Delphian School is a co-ed K–12 private school operated by Delphi Schools. It uses L. Ron Hubbard's study techniques, known as Study Tech. It is located in unincorporated Yamhill County, Oregon, near Sheridan., with most students living on campus either full-time or five-day (going home for the weekends). The school also accepts day students; boarders must be at least eight years old, while day students can be as young as five. Most of the school's 272 students are in grades 8- 12. Campus and history In the fall of 1976, the Delphian School opened on the site of a former Jesuit novitiate near Sheridan, Oregon. The main building on campus is a four-story, Art Deco-style building with a brick exterior that was designed by Poole & McGonigle and built in 1933 for the Jesuit house. The Delphian Club was an early American literary club active between 1816 and 1825. The focal point of Baltimore's literary community, Delphians like John Neal were prodigious authors and editors. The group of mostly lawyers and doctors gathered weekly to share refreshments and facetious stories, with many of their works being published in ''The Portico'' magazine. The club's structure and terminology were inspired by classical antiquity and comical verbosity. Sixteen men claimed membership over the club's nine-year run, with no more than nine serving at a time.
