Rural Municipality Of Winchester
The Rural Municipality of Winchester is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on November 1, 1890. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the Town of Deloraine to form the Municipality of Deloraine – Winchester. The former RM is located in the southwestern part of the province, on its border with the state of North Dakota in the United States. It had a population of 594 in the 2006 census. Geography According to Statistics Canada, the former RM had an area of 725.58 km2 (280.15 sq mi). A portion of Manitoba's Turtle Mountain Provincial Park is located at the southeast corner of the former RM along its border with North Dakota. Deloraine, Manitoba
Deloraine is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Deloraine – Winchester within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held town status prior to January 1, 2015. It is situated near the Turtle Mountains in the southwestern corner of the province. Located in the Westman Region, the community is south of Brandon. Deloraine originally incorporated as a village in 1904 and then as a town in 1907. Its town status was relinquished in 2015 when it amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Winchester. Deloraine is named after a village in Roxburghshire, Scotland. History The area of Deloraine was originally home to the Assiniboine and the later the Hunkpapa, whose lives were centred around the plains bison herds. The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) (french: Association canadienne des pilotes et propriétaires d'aéronefs) is a federally registered not-for-profit association that provides information and advocacy services for Canadian pilots who fly for non-commercial purposes.
