Delone Catholic High School
Delone Catholic High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg. History Delone Catholic High School is a regional high school named for Charles J. Delone, Esquire, a prominent Catholic attorney of Hanover, Pennsylvania, who donated the land and the funds for the construction of the original building. The facilities that had been the education center for the elementary and high school had been destroyed by a fire in 1938, which precipitated Delone's donation. The cornerstone of the new school was laid in 1939, and the new building was dedicated by Archbishop Amleto Giovanni Cicognani, Apostolic Delegate to the United States, on September 2, 1940. McSherrystown, Pennsylvania
McSherrystown is a borough in Adams County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,077 as of the 2020 census. McSherrystown was home to the headquarters of Teddy Bear manufacturer Boyds Bears, as well as the oldest operating family-run cigar manufacturer in the U.S. (since 1863), F.X. Smith & Sons. Boyds has since closed down, and in 2018, the cigar company was sold. History McSherrystown is the fourth oldest town in Adams County. Its founder, Patrick McSherry (1725–1795) having family origins stemming from Newry, Northern Ireland, procured a tract from the Digges Family in 1763 and proceeded to lay out a number of lots. The first known deed for one of these lots was dated June 27, 1765. Littlestown is a borough in Adams County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,434 at the 2010 census. Originally laid out by Peter Klein in 1760, the town was first named "Petersburg". German settlers in the area came to call the town "Kleine Stedtle". As confusion between the town and a neighboring town (also named "Petersburg", now York Springs) grew, the town officially changed its name to Littlestown (essentially a translation of "Kleine Stedtle" from German) in 1795. History During the Gettysburg Campaign in the American Civil War, the Battle of Fairfield played an important role in securing the Fairfield pass and the Hagerstown Road, enabling Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia to retreat through Fairfield towards the Potomac River.
