Dellwood (also known as Delwood) is an unincorporated community, unincorporated census-designated place located in Adams County, Wisconsin, Adams County, Wisconsin, United States. Dellwood is west of Friendship (village), Wisconsin, Friendship, in the town of Strongs Prairie, Wisconsin, Strongs Prairie. As of the United States Census, 2010, 2010 census, its population was 563. In the 1920s, a Chicago builder named Simon P. Linehan developed the area as a summer resort called “The Dellwood”. Through his development company, Linehan purchased about 3,000 acres along the Wisconsin River two miles south of what was then the unincorporated village of Holmsville. Holmsville residents soon changed its name to Dellwood. Demographics As of the American Community Survey 5-year data in 2019, Dellwood had 525 people and 286 households. Adams County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,654. Its county seat is Friendship. The county was created in 1848 and organized in 1853. Sources differ as to whether its name is in honor of the second President of the United States, John Adams, or his son, the sixth President, John Quincy Adams. These people were "Yankee" settlers, that is to say they were descended from the English Separatists who settled New England in the 1600s. There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. When Illinois was admitted to the union in 1818, Wisconsin became part of the Territory of Michigan and divided into two counties: Brown County in the northeast along Lake Michigan and Crawford County in the southwest along the Mississippi River. The Town of Strongs Prairie is located in Adams County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,150 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Arkdale, Dellwood, and Strongs Prairie are located within the town. Geography Strongs Prairie is located along the Wisconsin River, the western border of Adams County. Two impoundments on the river, Castle Rock Lake and Petenwell Lake, are partly within the town. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
