The species was long thought to be extinct, but in March 2021 three individuals were discovered growing in an undisclosed location on the Big Island of Hawaii, and efforts are underway to use their seeds to re-establish the species elsewhere. ''Delissea argutidentata'' can grow up to 35 feet tall, which is much taller than other species in the Campanulaceae. The plants have a palm-like trunk topped by a round cluster of simple leaves. They previously inhabitated the bottoms and slopes of old volcanic craters and could be found in the understory of '' Acacia koa'' forests. Refere ...

Hawaiian Lobelioids
The Hawaiian lobelioids are a group of flowering plants in the bellflower family, Campanulaceae, subfamily Lobelioideae, all of which are endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. This is the largest plant radiation in the Hawaiian Islands, and indeed the largest on any island archipelago, with over 125 species. The six genera involved can be broadly separated based on growth habit: ''Clermontia'' are typically branched shrubs or small trees, up to tall, with fleshy fruits; ''Cyanea'' and ''Delissea'' are typically unbranched or branching only at the base, with a cluster of relatively broad leaves at the apex and fleshy fruits; ''Lobelia'' and ''Trematolobelia'' have long thin leaves down a single, non-woody stem and capsular fruits with wind-dispersed seeds; and the peculiar ''Brighamia'' have a short, thick stem with a dense cluster of broad leaves, elongate white flowers, and capsular fruits. The relationships among the genera and sections remains unsettled . Many species have beauti ...

Campanulaceae
The family Campanulaceae (also bellflower family), of the order Asterales, contains nearly 2400 species in 84 genera of herbaceous plants, shrubs, and rarely small trees, often with milky sap. Among them are several familiar garden plants belonging to the genera '' Campanula'' (bellflower), ''Lobelia'', and ''Platycodon'' (balloonflower). ''Campanula rapunculus'' (rampion or r. bellflower) and ''Codonopsis lanceolata'' are eaten as vegetables. ''Lobelia inflata'' (indian tobacco), '' L. siphilitica'' and '' L. tupa'' (devil's tobacco) and others have been used as medicinal plants. ''Campanula rapunculoides'' (creeping bellflower) may be a troublesome weed, particularly in gardens, while ''Legousia'' spp. may occur in arable fields. Most current classifications include the segregate family Lobeliaceae in Campanulaceae as subfamily Lobelioideae. A third subfamily, Cyphioideae, includes the genus ''Cyphia'', and sometimes also the genera ''Cyphocarpus'', ''Nemacladus'', ''Parishell ...

Acacia Koa
''Acacia koa'' or commonly known as koa is a species of flowering tree in the family Fabaceae. It is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, where it is the second most common tree. The highest populations are on Hawaii, Maui and Oahu. Name The name ''koa'' in the Hawaiian language ultimately comes from Proto-Austronesian *''teRas'' meaning "core" or "ironwood"; many names referring to certain ironwood or heartwood species in Southeast Asia and Oceania such as ''Vitex parviflora'' (''tugás'' in Cebuano), ''Eusideroxylon zwageri'' (''togas'' in Tombonuwo), and ''Intsia bijuga'' (''dort'' in Palauan) descend from this root. ''Koa'' also means brave, bold, fearless, or warrior. Description Koa is a large tree, typically attaining a height of and a spread of . Lobelioideae
Lobelioideae is a subfamily of the plant family Campanulaceae. It contains 32 genera, totalling about 1200 species. Some of the larger genera are ''Lobelia'', ''Siphocampylus'', ''Centropogon'', ''Burmeistera'' and '' Cyanea''. They are perennials, sometimes annuals, ranging in form from herbs to small trees. Most species are tropical in distribution, but in total this subfamily occurs almost worldwide, being absent only from Arctic regions, central Asia and the Near East. The subfamily is particularly diverse in Hawaii, where well over 100 species of Hawaiian lobelioids have radiated from a single introduction. This subfamily was formerly given family rank as Lobeliaceae, under a somewhat different circumscription. The leaves are simple and alternate. The plants have milky sap. The flowers are bilaterally symmetric with five lobes and stamen The stamen (plural ''stamina'' or ''stamens'') is the pollen-producing reproductive organ of a flower. Collectively the stamens fo ...

Endemic Flora Of Hawaii
Endemism is the state of a species being found in a single defined geographic location, such as an island, state, nation, country or other defined zone; organisms that are indigenous to a place are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere. For example, the Cape sugarbird is found exclusively in southwestern South Africa and is therefore said to be ''endemic'' to that particular part of the world. An endemic species can be also be referred to as an ''endemism'' or in scientific literature as an ''endemite''. For example '' Cytisus aeolicus'' is an endemite of the Italian flora. '' Adzharia renschi'' was once believed to be an endemite of the Caucasus, but it was later discovered to be a non-indigenous species from South America belonging to a different genus. The extreme opposite of an endemic species is one with a cosmopolitan distribution, having a global or widespread range. A rare alternative term for a species that is endemic is "precinctive", which applies to s ...
