''An Ideal Husband'' is a 1999 British film based on the 1895 play '' An Ideal Husband'' by Oscar Wilde. The film stars Cate Blanchett, Minnie Driver, Rupert Everett, Julianne Moore and Jeremy Northam. It was directed by Oliver Parker. It was selected as the 1999 Cannes Film Festival's closing film. Plot Sir Robert Chiltern is a successful government minister, well-off and with a loving wife. All this is threatened when Mrs Cheveley appears in London with damning evidence of a past misdeed. Sir Robert turns to his friend Lord Goring for help, an apparently idle philanderer and the despair of his father. ''Piccadilly Jim'' is a novel by P. G. Wodehouse, first published in the United States on 24 February 1917 by Dodd, Mead and Company, New York, and in the United Kingdom in May 1918 by Herbert Jenkins, London.McIlvaine (1990), pp. 31–31, A20. The story had previously appeared in the US in the '' Saturday Evening Post'' between 16 September and 11 November 1916. The novel features Ogden Ford and his mother Nesta, both previously encountered in '' The Little Nugget'' (1913). Nesta has remarried the diffident, baseball-loving millionaire Mr Peter Pett, and Ogden remains spoilt and obnoxious.
