The Delhi International Arts Festival is an annual arts festival which takes place in Delhi, India. It presents artistic performances from around the world. History The Delhi International Arts Festival was founded in 2007 as a private-public partnership venture in New Delhi, India. Delhi International Arts Festival is India's famous & visible festival of arts. It was founded in 2007 by Founder Festival Director Prathibha Prahlad. The experts who supported the idea of an International Arts Festival in Delhi were late Ram Nivas Mirdha of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sri Pavan Varma of ICCR, Sri Parvez Dewan of ITDC and others. Pratibha Prahlad
Prathibha Prahlad (b 1962) is a Bharata Natyam dancer, educator, choreographer, arts administrator, and author. She was the founder director of the Delhi International Arts Festival. Personal life Prathiba Prahlad was born on January 29, 1969, in Mysuru, India. Prahlad's passion for dance allegedly began at the age of four which encouraged her to first join her neighbor's dance class between ages four and eight. She began her dance journey without any formal training but with the support of her parents who realized her talent and encouraged her. She had her early training in dance under U.S Krishna Rao, Kalanidhi Narayanan and V.S. Muthuswamy Pillai and in Kuchipudi under Vempatti Chinna Satya. By the time she was 20, she was an established professional dancer. Her career has taken her to platforms all over India and to festivals in over 50 countries. Ram Niwas Mirdha
Ram Niwas Mirdha (24 August 1924 – 29 January 2010) was an Indian politician from Rajasthan. He served as member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1953 to 1967 and as speaker of the assembly from 1957 to 1967. Mirdha was as a cabinet minister of the Government of India for several departments during the 1970s and 1980s and became of member of the Lok Sabha for Barmer, Rajasthan, from 1991 to 1996. He was a member of the executive board of UNESCO from 1993 to 1997. Sangeet Natak Akademi (The National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama in English) is the national level academy for performing arts set up by the Government of India. History It was set up by the Indian education ministry on 31 May 1952 and became functional the following year, with the appointment of its first chairman, Dr. P. V. Rajamannar. Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, inaugurated it on 28 January 1953 in a special function held in the Parliament House. India Tourism Development Corporation
The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is a hospitality, retail and education company owned by Government of India, under Ministry of Tourism. Established in 1966, it owns over 17 properties under the Ashok Group of Hotels brand, across India. One of the hotels the government developed was the Akbar Hotel in Chanakyapuri, which was built from 1965-69. It remained a hotel until the mid-1980's when it was converted into office space. Aruna Vasudev
Aruna Vasudev (born 1936) is an Indian critic, author, editor, painter, maker of documentaries and is considered an eminent scholar on Asian cinema, who has also been described as the "mother of Asian Cinema". Early life and education A younger sister of Uma Vasudeva, she was born in 1936. After marrying Sunil Kumar Roy, an Indian diplomat, she chose to retain her maiden name. His Excellency Sunil Roy died in New York from cancer in 1993, having previously served as Indian Ambassador to Poland, then Mexico, and High Commissioner to Nigeria. In the early 1960s, she attended film classes in New York where her father was working and created a number of short documentaries after her return to India. She received a doctorate from the University of Paris on cinema and censorship. Her PhD thesis was published as a book titled ''Liberty and Licence in the Indian Cinema'' in 1979. Purana Qila
Purana Qila () is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. Built by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun and Surid Sultan Sher Shah Suri, it is thought by many to be located on the site of the ancient city of Indraprastha. The fort formed the inner citadel of the city of Dinpanah. It is located near the expansive Pragati Maidan exhibition ground and is separated from the Dhyanchand Stadium by the Mathura Road, Delhi.
