Delaware Avenue Historic District (Buffalo, New York)
Delaware Avenue Historic District is a national historic district located at Buffalo, New York, United States, and Erie County. It is located along the west side of Delaware Avenue (New York State Route 384) between North Street to the South and Bryant Street to the North. History When listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the district encompassed 17 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure reflective of when Buffalo had more millionaires per capita than any city in America, and this was once Millionaires' Mile. The mansions were built between about 1890 and World War I and reflect Renaissance Revival and Gothic Revival style architecture. The Williams-Pratt House, is a roughly 11,040 sq. ft. mansion located in Buffalo, New York, which was built between 1896 and 1899. The house was designed by architect Stanford White of the New York firm of McKim, Mead & White for Charles Howard Williams and his wife Emma. Charles W
The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. The Charles W. Goodyear House is located at 888 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, New York, part of the Delaware Avenue Historic District, a federally designated historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974. The Châteauesque house was designed by prominent Buffalo architect Edward Green, of the Buffalo architecture firm Green & Wicks, and was completed in 1903 at a cost of $500,000 (). Esenwein & Johnnson was an architectural firm of Buffalo, New York. Firm history It was a partnership of German-born August Esenwein (1856-1926) and James A. Johnson (1865-1939). The partnership was started in 1898; the firm designed "many of Buffalo's outstanding buildings including the Lafayette High School and the General Electric Building". Edward Brodhead Green (May 10, 1855 – February 2, 1950), very often referred to as E. B. Green, was a major American architect from New York State. Early life Green was born in Utica, New York on May 10, 1855. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, graduating with a bachelor of architecture degree in 1878. Following his graduation, Green was the 3rd architect to be registered by the State University of New York. Career After graduation, Green worked as a junior architect with William Miller in Ithaca for three years while teaching at Cornell for one year. In 1880, along with William Sydney Wicks, an M.I.T. architecture graduate, he opened a practice in Auburn, New York, moving a year later to 69 Genesee Street in Buffalo, New York in 1881.
