Delano is a neighborhood located in Wichita, Kansas, Wichita, Kansas, United States. A mixed commercial and residential area on the west bank of the Arkansas River, it is home to Friends University, Riverfront Stadium (Wichita), Riverfront Stadium, and Exploration Place, the Sedgwick County, Kansas, Sedgwick County science museum. History Thanks to the availability of inexpensive land under the Homestead Act, Homestead Act of 1862, settlers purchased land across the Arkansas River from Wichita, Kansas. It is in the outskirts of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Delano was platted in 1868, and named after Francis Roach Delano, a railroad official. A post office has been in operation at Delano since 1870. Delano was incorporated in 1876. Three buildings in the town are on the National Register of Historic Places: the 1880s Eagle Newspaper Office, the 1888 Delano Village Hall, and the 1893 Simon Weldele House. Lee Delano (January 19, 1931 – October 8, 2017) was an American character actor. Delano was born in New York City. He graduated from the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater, where he studied with Sandy Meisner for acting and Martha Graham for dance. His classmates included Joanne Woodward, Susan Oliver and Steve McQueen. McQueen convinced Delano to make the move west to Hollywood where he began to obtain guest roles in episodes of numerous television series, including the original ''Star Trek'' in "A Piece of the Action". William Adams Delano (January 21, 1874 – January 12, 1960), an American architect, was a partner with Chester Holmes Aldrich in the firm of Delano & Aldrich. The firm worked in the Beaux-Arts tradition for elite clients in New York City, Long Island and elsewhere, building townhouses, country houses, clubs, banks and buildings for colleges and private schools.
