Formed as the Versatiles in late 1965, the group changed its name to "the 5th Dimension" by 1966. Sherlie Matthews (born November 10, 1934) is an American singer, songwriter and former Motown Records producer, best known as a backing vocalist for pop, R&B and rock groups from the mid-1960s to the present time. Early life Matthews started performing as a soloist in church at the age of two. Then at age four, she began harmonizing. She sang alto parts in vocal duets with her two-year-old sister. The song reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in August 1971. It also reached number one in Ireland. "I'm Still Waiting" continued the vein of sophisticated soul as heard on Ross's breakthrough solo hit "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". The second single and title track from their album '' Love Child'', it became the Supremes' 11th (and penultimate) number-one single in the United States, where it sold 500,000 in its first week and 2 million copies by year's end. Martha and the Vandellas (known from 1967 to 1972 as Martha Reeves & The Vandellas) were an American vocal girl group formed in Detroit in 1957. The group achieved fame in the 1960s with Motown. An act founded by friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford and Gloria Williams, the group eventually included Martha Reeves, who moved up in ranks as lead vocalist of the group after Williams' departure in 1962.
