Dejene Berhanu
Dejene Berhanu (December 12, 1980 – August 29, 2010) was a male Ethiopian runner, who specialized in the 5000 metres. Berhanu finished 11th in the short race at the 2004 World Cross Country Championships and fifth in the 5000 at the Athens Olympics. He followed that up with a pair of strong finishes at the World Cross Country Championships the next year. Berhanu was seventh in the short race and sixth in the long race. He ran in the 5000 again at the World Championships at Helsinki, finishing eighth. In 2006, Berhanu turned to focus on the marathon. He eschewed cross country for the Rotterdam Marathon, where he finished fourth in a time of 2:08:46. He ran the Chicago Marathon in the fall as a last-minute replacement for favourite Felix Limo. Running with the leaders through the halfway mark in a blistering 63:15, Berhanu faded after 30 km and finished ninth in a time of 2:12:27. Dejene Yirdaw
Dejene Yirdaw (born 21 August 1978 in Tulu Bolo) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. He represented Ethiopia at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics and has won the Gyeongju International Marathon and the Kosice Peace Marathon. He personal best for the distance is 2 hours and 8:30 minutes. Career His first top level appearances came in 2007: he ran at the Nedbank half marathon in Bloemfontein in April, coming seventh with a time of 1:03:51, and then in October he entered into his first marathon race, the Dublin Marathon, and managed to finish in third place with a time of 2:11:08. He competed in the United States for the first time the following year and his run of 2:14:20 was enough for second place behind Michael Aish at the Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon. Dejen Gebremeskel (born 24 November 1989) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who primarily competes in track events. His personal best of 12:46.81 minutes for the 5000 metres ranks him as the fifth fastest of all time for the distance. He was the 5000 m silver medallist at the 2012 London Olympics and took the bronze medal over that distance at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. He won his first track medals as a junior, coming second at the African Junior Athletics Championships, then taking the bronze medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships in Athletics. Dejenee Regassa Mootumaa (born 18 April 1989) is formerly an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner who competed internationally for Bahrain. For a time, he was the reigning Asian champion in the 5000 metres. In his first major appearance outside of Ethiopia, he ran at the 2009 Frankfurt Marathon and finished 20th in a time of 2:15:30 hours. He transferred his eligibility to Bahrain at the end of 2009. He made his international debut at the 2010 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, coming 84th, and placed fourth in the 5000 metres at the 2010 Asian Games. He was much improved in the 2011 season. He reached 28th place at the 2011 World Cross Country then claimed the Asian 5000 m title at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships – Bahrain won all the long-distance races that year as a result.
