Degilbo is a rural town and locality in the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Degilbo had a population of 174 people. History The name ''Degilbo'' was the name of a pastoral run owned by William Henry Walsh (a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council) in 1847. It is believed to be an Aboriginal word ''dackeel bo'' meaning ''sharp or upright stones''. A very popular story is that ''Degilbo'' is actually the word ''obliged'' spelt backwards, attributed to a railway surveyor, who had to assign names to many railway stations, had run out of ideas but as he was ''obliged'' to come up with a name, he wrote that word down backwards. Being perhaps a more entertaining story, the story of the backwards spelling is frequently published, and is usually followed by a spate of correspondence pointing out that the name of the pastoral run preceded the railway station by at least 20 years. Deep Creek Railway Bridge
Deep Creek Railway Bridge is also known as Chowey Bridge. It is a heritage-listed railway bridge on the Mungar-Monto railway line in Didcot, North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1905 by day labour. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The Mungar-Monto railway line was built only as far as Degilbo before the financial depression of the early 1890s halted the rail construction program. Construction resumed on the Degilbo to Wetheron extension in February 1905 under the Railway Department's day labour program. The Deep Creek Railway Bridge was designed in the office of William Pagan who was Chief Engineer at the time. The Construction Department's Resident Engineer on site was Richard Ernest Sexton who later became Chief Engineer for Railways. Mungar Junction To Monto Branch Railway
The Mungar Junction to Monto railway line is a railway in Queensland, Australia. Progressively opened in eleven stages between 1889 and 1928 the line branched from the North Coast line at Mungar Junction a short distance west of Maryborough and followed a westerly route towards Biggenden and Gayndah before turning north via Mundubbera and Eidsvold to Monto. It is also known as the Gayndah Monto Branch Railway. North Burnett Regional Council
The North Burnett Region is a local government area in Queensland, Australia in the northern catchment of the Burnett River. Established in 2008, it was preceded by several previous local government areas with histories extending back to the early 1900s. It has an estimated operating budget of A$32 million. Bicentennial National Trail
The Bicentennial National Trail (BNT), originally known as the National Horse Trail, is one of the longest multi-use, non-motorised, self-reliant trails in the world, stretching 5,330 kilometres from Cooktown, Queensland, through New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory to Healesville, 60 km north-east of Melbourne. This trail runs the length of the rugged Great Dividing Range through national parks, private property and alongside wilderness areas. Isis Highway
The Isis Highway is a state highway in southern Queensland, Australia. The highway is relatively short, and runs for in a north-east / south-west direction between Bundaberg North and the Burnett Highway at Ban Ban Springs. The Isis Highway links the sugar producing Bundaberg and Fraser Coast regions with the cattle farming districts of the North Burnett. The highway takes its name from the Isis River, which flows between Maryborough and Childers. The highway also passes through a significant amount of the former Isis Shire local government area, of which Childers was the administrative centre. The ''Fraser Coast Chronicle'' is an online newspaper serving the Fraser Coast area in Queensland, Australia. It was started as the Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser. History Charles Hardie Buzacott first published the ''Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser'' in Maryborough as a four-page tabloid, in his slab hut in Lennox Street in November 1860. It sold for sixpence and was read from Gayndah in the west and Childers in the north to Gympie in the south. In 1863, Buzacott sold his interests to William Swain Roberts and Joseph Robinson, who set out to "reflect the community's wants and opinions while boldly and distinctly enunciating our own views".
