Defence District
A defence district ( sv, Försvarsområde, Fo) was a military subdivision of the Swedish Armed Forces created in 1914. It was a lower regional level subdivision, usually corresponding to a Swedish county. The commander of a defence district was the Defence District Commander, who usually commanded local defence units, including infantry, engineers, air defence and light artillery, as well as any Home Guard units in the district. The commander answered to the larger military district that the defence district was part of. History A defence district was the lowest regional unit in the Swedish Armed Forces. Such were found in particularly important coastal areas during World War I and from 1939 on at a time of mobilization. From 1943 they were included as part of the ordinary peace organization. North Scanian Regiment
North Scanian Regiment ( sv, Norra skånska regementet), designation P 6/Fo 14, was a Swedish Army armoured regiment that operated from 1963 to 1994. The unit was based in the Kristianstad Garrison in Kristianstad. The unit was formed in 1963 when North Scanian Infantry Regiment (I 6) was converted from an infantry regiment to and armoured regiment. History In connection with the Defence Act of 1958, the Riksdag decided that eight armored brigades with new combat vehicles should be organized within the Swedish Army, a decision that for economic reasons changed in August 1960 to include only seven armored brigades. Life Guard Dragoons (Sweden)
The Life Guard Dragoons ( sv, Livgardets dragoner), designated K 1, was a Swedish Army cavalry unit active from 1949 to 2000. The unit was formed as a squadron called the Life Guards Squadron (''Livgardesskvadronen'') in 1949, as a replacement for the previous K 1, the Life Regiment of Horse (1928–1948). In 1975 the squadron were made into a regiment, titled the Life Guard Dragoons with Stockholm Defence District (''Livgardets dragoner med Stockholms försvarsområde'' K 1/Fo 44), redesignated the Life Guard Dragoons in 1984. The regiment had ceremonial mounted cavalry duties, as well as training recruits and providing part of the garrison in Stockholm. Södermanland Regiment (armoured)
The Södermanland Regiment ( sv, Södermanlands regemente), designated P 10 or P 3 and P 10/Fo 43, was an armored regiment of the Swedish Army with its roots in the 17th century, and was located in Strängnäs. The regiment was deactivated in 2004 and its assets were funneled into other parts of the military. Its life company was transferred to the Södermanland Group of the Home Guard, making the Södermanland Group the only Home Guard unit with such a company. History The regiment was converted from an infantry regiment to an armored regiment in 1942. With the formation of the Armoured Troops in 1942, the organization of armored brigades was started in Sweden and on 1 July 1943, Sweden's first armored brigade, the 10th Armored Brigade (''10. pansarbrigaden'', PB 10) was mainly organized by the regiment. Life Grenadier Regiment (Sweden)
The Life Grenadier Regiment ( sv, Livgrenadjärregementet), designations I 4 and I 4/Fo 41, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traced its origins back to the 16th century. It was disbanded in 1997. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the provinces of Östergötland, and it was later garrisoned there. History The regiment has its origins in fänikor (companies) raised in the 16th century, these units formed Östergötland Infantry Regiment and Östergötland Cavalry Regiment which merged in 1791 and formed the Life Grenadier Regiment. Skaraborg Regiment (armoured)
The Skaraborg Regiment ( sv, Skaraborgs regemente), designation P 4, is a Swedish Army armoured regiment that traces its origins back to the 16th century. It was converted from an infantry regiment in 1942. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from Skaraborg County, and it is currently garrisoned in Skövde, in the former Skaraborg County. History The regiment was converted from an infantry regiment to an armored regiment in 1942 and was given the name Skaraborg Armoured Regiment. The regiment was given the designation P 4 (4th Armoured Regiment) and was garrisoned in Skövde. On 1 April 1963, it regained its old name of the Royal Skaraborg Regiment. Älvsborg Regiment
The Älvsborg Regiment ( sv, Älvsborgs regemente), designation I 15 and I 15/Fo 34, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traces its origins back 1624. It was disbanded in 1998. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the provinces of Västergötland, and it was later garrisoned there in the town Borås. Heraldry and traditions Colours, standards and guidons The regiment has carried a number of colours over the years. On 24 June 1854, the then crown prince, later King Charles XV presented the last battalion colours to the regiment. They were so called Oscar I type, and were presented at a summit on Axevalla heath. In 1904 the regiment adopted the 1st battalion's colour as regimental colour (which has been hanging in ''Älvsborgsmässen'' ("Älvsborg Mess") at Gothenburg Garrison since 1998). Halland Regiment
The Halland Regiment ( sv, Hallands regemente), designations I 16 and I 16/Fo 31, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traced its origins back to the 16th century. Västernorrland Regiment
The Västernorrland Regiment ( sv, Västernorrlands regemente), designation I 21, is a Swedish Army infantry unit which operated in various forms the years 1869–1983, 1991–2000 and from 2022. It is located in Sollefteå Garrison in Sollefteå with a detachment in Östersund. History The regiment was the only regiment that grew out of the 1812 conscription organization and originated in Västernorrland Conscription Battalion (''Västernorrlands beväringsbataljon'') which was formed on 19 October 1854. The conscription battalion was until 29 March 1869 subordinate to the commander of Jämtland Ranger Regiment, Jämtland Ranger Corps (No 23). The Jämtland Ranger Corps ( sv, Jämtlands fältjägarkår, JFK), is a Swedish Army infantry unit that operated in various forms the years 1670–1983, 1990–1997, 2000–2005 and 2021–present. The unit was located in Östersund Garrison in Östersund. History The regiment had its origin in ''Ångermanlands, Medelpads och Jämtlands regemente'' raised in 1646 in the newly conquered province Jämtland, although the men were mostly recruited in the old Swedish provinces of Ångermanland and Medelpad. The Hälsinge Regiment ( sv, Hälsinge regemente), designations I 14, I 14/Fo 49 and I 14/Fo 21, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traced its origins back to the 16th century.
