Lincoln Middle School is a middle school in the Deering Center neighborhood of Portland, Maine. The school is located on Stevens Avenue, which has the unusual distinction of having an elementary school, middle school, two high schools, and a college all situated on it. The new principal of the school as of the 2014–2015 school year is Suellyn Santiago who was the assistant principal and a math teacher previously. Lincoln Middle school is divided into houses, 2 for each grade (6,7,8). The students at Lincoln primarily come from three of Portland's many elementary schools, Riverton, Hall, and Longfellow, which is also located on Stevens Avenue. Scott Wilson (January 11, 1870 – October 22, 1942) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Education and career Born on January 11, 1870, in Falmouth, Maine, Wilson attended the University of Pennsylvania and then received an Artium Baccalaureus degree in 1892 from Bates College. Francis Ormand Jonathan Smith (Brentwood, New Hampshire, November 23, 1806; Deering, Maine, October 14, 1876) was a U.S. lawyer, legislator, and telegraph pioneer and financier. He was elected from the state of Maine to the United States House of Representatives to serve three terms from 1833 to 1839, and business partner of Samuel Morse. Biography Smith was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, and eventually was admitted to the bar to practice law in Portland, Maine. Westbrook College
Westbrook College was a liberal arts college in Portland, Maine, founded 1831 as Westbrook Seminary in Westbrook, Maine. It closed in 1996 and merged with the University of New England, which uses its old campus. History In 1831, Westbrook Seminary was established by the Kennebec Association of Universalists in Westbrook, Maine. The original 8- acre property was a gift from Zachariah Stevens, for whom Steven's Plains and Stevens Avenue are named, and Oliver Buckley. The seminary building, now called Alumni Hall, was not finished until 1834, and the first classes were finally held after its completion. Deering High School
Deering High School (DHS) is a public high school in Portland, Maine, United States. The school is part of the Portland Public Schools district. It is one of the three public high schools located in Portland, the others being Portland High School and Casco Bay High School. Along with Portland High, enrollment to Deering is open choice by the family. History Deering High School was established in 1874 after Deering, Maine, seceded from Westbrook, Maine, in 1871. It is named after the town of Deering, which was later annexed by the City of Portland in 1898. The first Deering High School building eventually became Longfellow Elementary. Westbrook is a city in Cumberland County, Maine, United States and a suburb of Portland. The population was 20,400 at the 2020 census, making it the fastest-growing city in Maine between 2010 and 2020. It is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. History Originally known as Saccarappa after Saccarappa Falls on the Presumpscot River, it was a part of Falmouth until February 14, 1814, when it was set off and incorporated as Stroudwater.
