Deep South Rugby Football Union
The Deep South Rugby Football Union (DSRFU) is a Local Area Union (LAU) for rugby union teams in the Southeastern United States. The DSRFU is part of the True South Geographical Union, one of the Geographical Unions (GUs) that comprise USA Rugby. It is a non-profit organization and is the primary overseeing body for the promotion of rugby union in the region. The DSRFU is divided into four divisions: Men, Women, College Men, and College Women. The union includes clubs from Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, Louisiana and Mississippi. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends. The New Orleans Rugby Football Club (also known as NORFC), founded in 1973, is a men's rugby union team based in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.
