Debra Kiel
Debra L. Kiel (born August 31, 1957) is an American politician serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2011. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, Kiel represents District 1B in northwest Minnesota, which includes the cities of Crookston and East Grand Forks and Norman, Polk, Clay and Red Lake Counties. Early life, education, and career Kiel was born and raised on a farm south of Crookston, Minnesota. She graduated from Crookston High School and attended Concordia College in Moorhead. Kiel was a member of the Crookston School Board for seven years, serving as its chair and treasurer. She and her husband are sugar beet farmers. Bernard L. "Bernie" Lieder (February 19, 1923 – August 23, 2020) was an American politician who served as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. He represented District 1B, which includes portions of Marshall, Pennington, Polk and Red Lake counties in the northwestern part of the state. Early Lieder attended Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, and the University of Illinois in the twin cities of Urbana and Champaign, Illinois, to study Engineering. He also served in the U.S. Army in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during and after World War II (1943–1946). Career Lieder was first elected in 1984, and was re-elected every two years until the 2010 general election, when he was unseated by Republican Debra Kiel. The 2010 Minnesota House of Representatives election was held in the U.S. state of Minnesota on November 2, 2010, to elect members to the House of Representatives of the 87th Minnesota Legislature. A primary election was held in several districts on August 10, 2010. The Republican Party of Minnesota won a majority of seats, defeating the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), which had a majority since defeating the Republicans in the 2006 election.
