Death Of A Cyclist
''Death of a Cyclist'' ( es, Muerte de un ciclista) is a 1955 social realist Spanish drama film directed by Juan Antonio Bardem and starring Italian actress Lucia Bosè, who was dubbed into Spanish by Elsa Fábregas. It won the FIPRESCI Award at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. Plot ''The Death of a Cyclist'' begins with the return of Juan Fernandez Soler (Alberto Closas), a university professor, and MarÃa Jose (Lucia Bosè), a wealthy married woman, from an adulterous endeavor. While speeding down the road, MarÃa Jose and Juan hit a cyclist with their car. Although the cyclist was alive when they left him, his reported death causes both MarÃa Jose and Juan great anxiety in their personal lives. For MarÃa Jose, the exposure of this crime (and thus the affair) would mean the potential loss of her world as a wealthy socialite. Juan Antonio Bardem
Juan Antonio Bardem Muñoz (2 June 1922 – 30 October 2002) was a Spanish film director and screen writer, born in Madrid. He was a member of the Communist Party. Bardem was best known for ''Muerte de un ciclista'' (1955) which won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival, and '' El puente'' (1977) which won the Golden Prize at the 10th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1979 film ''Seven Days in January'' won the Golden Prize at the 11th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1981 he was a member of the jury at the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1993 he was a member of the jury at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. In 1953 he and Luis GarcÃa Berlanga founded a film magazine, '' Objetivo'', which existed until 1956. Bardem is the father of director Miguel Bardem and uncle of actor Javier Bardem. Bardem died in Madrid in 2002, at age 80. Marsha Kinder
Marsha Kinder (born 1940) is an American film scholar and Professor of Critical Studies at the University of Southern California. Background Kinder began her career as a scholar of eighteenth-century English Literature before moving to the study of transmedia relations among various narrative art forms. From 1965 through 1980 she taught at Occidental College in the Dept. of English and Comparative Literature. With her colleague, William Moritz, Kinder introduced film studies into their curriculum. In 1980 she joined USC as a Professor of Critical Studies in the School of Cinematic Arts where she taught until 2012; Kinder's specialties included Spanish cinema, narrative theory, children's media culture, database documentaries, and digital culture.
