Death Disco
"Death Disco" is a song by Public Image Ltd. The record was released in both 7" and 12" single formats with a "½ Mix" of the song and "Megga mix" (an instrumental version of "Fodderstompf" from '' Public Image: First Issue'') on the 12" version. It reached number twenty on the UK Singles Chart. The song was released in an alternative version as "Swan Lake" on the group's second album, ''Metal Box'', with slight changes at the end. The title change reflects the quote from Tchaikovsky's score that surfaces in Keith Levene's guitar part. In his autobiography, '' Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs'', Lydon stated that the song was written for his mother, who had died of cancer not long before. "I watched her die," he told '' Select'' in 1990. "She was tough, my mum. She asked me to write a disco song for her funeral. This was hardly happy stuff." Public Image Ltd (abbreviated and stylized as PiL) are an English post-punk band (and incorporated limited company) formed by singer John Lydon (previously known as the singer of Sex Pistols), guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker in May 1978. The group's personnel has changed frequently over the years; Lydon has been the sole constant member. Following Lydon's departure from the Sex Pistols in January 1978, he sought a more experimental "anti-rock" project and formed PiL. That year PiL released their debut ''First Issue'' (1978), creating an abrasive, bass-heavy sound that drew on dub, noise, progressive rock and disco. Happy Mondays
Happy Mondays are an English rock band formed in Salford in 1980. The original line-up was Shaun Ryder (vocals), his brother Paul Ryder ( bass), Gary Whelan (drums), Paul Davis (keyboard), and Mark Day (guitar). Mark "Bez" Berry later joined the band onstage as a dancer/percussionist. Rowetta joined as a second vocalist in 1990. They were initially signed to Tony Wilson's Factory Records label. The group's work bridged the Manchester independent rock music of the 1980s and the emerging UK rave scene, drawing influence from funk, house, and psychedelia to pioneer the Madchester sound. They experienced their commercial peak with the releases ''Bummed'' (1988), ''Madchester Rave On'' (1989), and ''Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches'' (1990), with the last going platinum in the UK.
