''The Dervish and Death'' ( sh, Дервиш и смрт/Derviš i smrt) is a 1974 Yugoslav film directed by Zdravko Velimirović based on the novel of the same name by Meša Selimović. The film won Silver Arena (as second best film) and four Golden Arena awards at the 1974 Pula Film Festival, the Yugoslav national film awards festival, including Best Director (Zdravko Velimirović), Best Supporting Actor (Abdurrahman Shala), Best Cinematography ( Nenad Jovičić) and Best Production Design (Vlastimir Gavrik). Zdravko Velimirović
Zdravko Velimirović (11 October 1930 – 7 February 2005) was a Yugoslavian film director and screenwriter, University Professor, a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences. He directed 43 films between 1954 and 2005. Early life Zdravko Velimirović was born on 11 October 1930 in Cetinje, the son of Professor Luka Velimirović and Professor Zagorka (née Balić) Velimirović. He completed High school in Kotor. Career During his career he was involved in variety of Arts: film director of feature, documentary and short films, TV series director, radio drama director, theatre play director and screenwriter for all mentioned. Pula Film Festival
Pula Film Festival ( hr, Pulski filmski festival) is an annual Croatian film festival, established in 1954. It is held in a Roman amphitheater known as the Pula Arena. Pula Film Festival is the oldest Croatian film festival and is usually held in the summer, in July or August. Apart from film screenings open to the public, the annual Croatian film industry awards are also traditionally presented at the festival. The awards presented at the festival (called Golden Arenas) are the main national film awards in the country, and they serve as the Croatian equivalent of the American Academy Awards. The festival was originally started in 1954 and within a few years it became the centerpiece event of the Yugoslav film industry, with the first national awards being presented in 1957. This is a list of submissions to the 47th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. Vlastimir ( sr-cyrl, Властимир, ; c. 805 – 851) was the Serbian prince from c. 830 until c. 851. Little is known of his reign. He held Serbia during the growing threat posed by the neighbouring, hitherto peaceful, First Bulgarian Empire, which had expanded significantly toward Serbia. At the time, the Bulgarian Empire and the Byzantine Empire were at peace by treaty, and although the Byzantine Emperor was overlord of the Serb lands, he was unable to aid the Serbs in a potential war. Presian I of Bulgaria eventually invaded Serbia, resulting in a three-year-war, in which the Bulgarian army was devastated and driven out.
