Sir Thomas Newenham Deane (1828 – 8 November 1899) was an Irish architect, the son of Sir Thomas Deane and Eliza Newenham, and the father of Sir Thomas Manly Deane. His father and son were also architects. Thomas Manly Deane
Sir Thomas Manly Deane (8 June 1851 – 3 February 1933) was an Irish architect, the son of Sir Thomas Newenham Deane and grandson of Sir Thomas Deane, who were also architects. Born at Ferney House, Blackrock, Cork, on 8 June 1851, he was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and travelled in France and Italy before joining his father's practice in 1878. Deane later went into partnership with his father from 1884 until his father's death in 1899, when he joined Sir Aston Webb. He designed three buildings of note in Dublin: the National Museum and National Library on Kildare Street and also in the 1937 Reading Room in Trinity College Dublin. Deane was knighted in 1911. Sir Thomas Deane (Cork, 1792 – Dublin, 1871) was an Irish architect. He was the father of Sir Thomas Newenham Deane, and grandfather of Sir Thomas Manly Deane, who were also architects. Life Thomas Deane was born in Cork, the eldest son of Alexander Deane, a builder, and Elizabeth Sharpe. His grandparents and uncle were also builders and architects, and had married into families of the same professions, the Kearns and Hargraves. His father died in 1806, leaving his mother with seven children to bring up. There was a flaw in his will, which prevented Mrs. Deane from acquiring the properties that he owned in Cork city, and a private Act of Parliament was required to enable her to gain the leases of the properties. Mrs. Deane continued the family business, and Thomas started work there at fourteen years of age. Silas Deane
Silas Deane (September 23, 1789) was an American merchant, politician, and diplomat, and a supporter of American independence. Deane served as a delegate to the Continental Congress, where he signed the Continental Association, and then became the first foreign diplomat from the United States to France, where he helped negotiate the 1778 Treaty of Alliance that allied France with the United States during the American Revolutionary War. Near the end of the war, Congress charged Deane with financial impropriety, and the British intercepted and published some letters in which he had implied that the American cause was hopeless. After the war, Deane lived in Ghent and London and died under mysterious circumstances while attempting to return to America. Seamus Francis Deane (9 February 194012 May 2021) was an Irish poet, novelist, critic, and intellectual historian. He was noted for his debut novel, ''Reading in the Dark'', which won several literary awards and was nominated for the Booker Prize in 1996. Early life Seamus Francis Deane was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, on 9 February 1940. He was the fourth child of Frank Deane and Winifred (Doherty), and was brought up as part of a Catholic nationalist family. Ruthven Deane (20 August 1851 – 20 March 1934) was an American ornithologist, noted as a founding member of the American Ornithologists' Union and for his collection of photographic portraits of ornithologists and naturalists. Early life Deane was born in Cambridgeport. From an early age, he was an enthusiastic amateur ornithologist. As a schoolboy he was a close friend to William Brewster and Daniel French and went on field trips with those two and other boys.
