Dean Young (Australian Politician)
Dean Geoffrey Young (born 23 March 1973) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party of Australia member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly, representing the electorate of Franklin from 2022 when he was elected in a countback of votes to replace Jacquie Petrusma until his defeat at the 2024 state election. He was the Government Whip and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Industry in the Rockliff Government. Young has a 20-year background in small business, including retail, accounting and hospitality. He owned the newsXpress newsagent in Glenorchy's Northgate Shopping Centre. Tasmanian House Of Assembly
The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 25 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with five members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. Each division has approximately the same number of electors. Voting for the House of Assembly is by a form of proportional representation using the single transferable vote (STV), known as the Hare-Clark electoral system. By having multiple members for each division, the voting intentions of the electors are more closely represented in the House of Assembly. Division Of Franklin (state)
The electoral division of Franklin is one of the five electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly, located in southern Tasmania and includes Bruny Island, Kingston and the eastern shore of the Derwent River. Franklin is named after Sir John Franklin, the Arctic explorer who was Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemen's Land (1837–43). The division shares its name and boundaries with the federal division of Franklin. Jacquie Petrusma
Jacqueline Anne Petrusma (née Harper; born 23 March 1966) is an Australian politician. She was a Liberal Party of Australia member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 2010 to 2022, representing the electorate of Franklin, and served as a minister in the governments of Will Hodgman, Peter Gutwein and Jeremy Rockliff. The daughter of Barry Harper, a former state cricketer, she was born in Launceston, Tasmania, and worked as a registered nurse before becoming involved in politics. She is married to a nephew of former MLC Hank Petrusma. Petrusma was educated at Glen Dhu Primary School, Kings Meadows High School, Launceston College and the University of Tasmania, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) in 1995. 2024 Tasmanian State Election
The 2024 Tasmanian state election was held on 23 March 2024 to elect all 35 members to the House of Assembly. The House of Assembly uses the proportional Hare-Clark system of voting, with the 35 members elected from five seven-member constituencies. The Assembly's size was increased from 25 to 35 seats at this election, under the provisions of the ''Expansion of House of Assembly Act 2022'', assented to in December 2022. The election was conducted by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission. Northgate Shopping Centre
Northgate Shopping Centre is the third largest shopping centre in Tasmania. Located in Glenorchy approximately 10 kilometres northwest of Hobart. The shopping centre is located on the Main Road within the CBD of Glenorchy with all stores located on the one level and a large undercover carpark situated below the main building. It was constructed on the site that had been that of the Glenorchy Tannery also known as Cook's Tannery. The centre was opened in November 1986 as a convenience centre anchored by a Coles Supermarket along with 46 speciality stores. The centre has since been refurbished and expanded in October 1995. Macquarie Point Stadium is a proposed multi-purpose stadium in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, scheduled to begin construction in 2025 and open in 2029 as the home ground of the Tasmania Football Club.
