Dean Yendall
Dean Yendall (born 1974) is an Australian jockey based in Victoria. Yendall began his career in 1991. As of late May 2023, he has ridden 2,690 winners, including six in Group One races. He is a lightweight jockey, able to ride at 49 kilograms. He has twice won the Group One Empire Rose Stakes, on the three-year-old fillies I Am A Star in 2016 and Shoals in 2017, who each carried 49 kilograms. Yendall has won the Victorian country jockeys' premiership several times, and has consistently ridden more than 100 winners a season in recent years, mostly in country races. Group One
Group One, Group 1, Grade I or G1 is the term used for the highest level of Thoroughbred and Standardbred stakes races in many countries. In Europe, the level of races for Thoroughbred racing is determined using the Pattern races, Pattern race system introduced in 1971 and monitored by the European Pattern Committee. To attain or maintain a Group One status, the average rating for the first four finishers in the race must be 115 or higher over a three-year period. Shoals (horse)
Shoals is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse trained and bred in Australia. She won three Group One races and over two and half million dollars over her career. Career Shoals made her debut on 21 February 2017 at Seymour, winning by 4 lengths. 4 weeks later, she won the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes. Opening with bookies at $7, she was backed into $2.70 by the start of the race, winning by half a length. Travelling to Sydney for the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes, Shoals was a "well supported" favourite in a "gritty win", coming from 2nd last down the straight to win by a half head. Trainer Anthony Freedman said, "She's a very tenacious filly. I don't think she really handled the ground all that well but she just has a great will to win." A dead heat is a rare situation in various racing sports in which the performances of competitors are judged to be so close that no difference between them can be resolved.
