Dean Williams (basketball)
Dean Williams (born 17 February 1977 in England) is a British former professional basketball player. He used to play for Reading Rockets and he is now teaching maths in Jumeirah College in Dubai. The 6 ft 3 in tall Guard was educated at Marjon's and has played internationally for the England men's national basketball team, England national team. Williams started his professional basketball career for the London Towers, having previously played for the amateur club Brixton Topcats. He left the Towers in 2000 to join National Basketball League (United Kingdom), National Basketball League team the Plymouth Raiders, where he spent four successful seasons before moving back into the top-flight with teammate Roderick Wellington, both of whom joined British Basketball League team the Thames Valley Tigers in 2004, the same year that the Raiders also made the jump to the BBL. Thames Valley Tigers
Thames Valley Tigers was a British professional basketball team that competed in the British Basketball League (BBL) until 2005, when funding was ceased and the franchise folded. Based in Bracknell, Berkshire, the team's fans set up a new team to replace the Tigers and a month later the Guildford Heat was born. Playing in the nearby town of Guildford, at the Guildford Spectrum, Spectrum complex, the team started the 2005–06 British Basketball League season with many of the former Tigers players. The Essex Pirates were a British Basketball League team from Southend-on-Sea, in the county of Essex. They were founded in 2009 and played their home games at the Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre. Following the loss of a major sponsor, the franchise withdrew from the league just two weeks prior to the start of the 2011-12 season and have remained inactive since, with much of their former fan-base now following Essex Leopards. History Basketball in Essex Prior to the creation of the Pirates franchise in 2009, the county of Essex had previous flirtations with top-level basketball through the Essex Leopards franchise, still a synonymous name with the area.
