Dean Schlabowske
Dean Schlabowske (aka Deano, or Deano Waco, or Ramblin' Deano) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He has been a member of several bands including Wreck, The Waco Brothers, Dollar Store, Deano and the Purvs, in addition to his solo work and various other collaborations. Early life Schlabowske grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but has spent much of his adult life living in Chicago, Illinois. From 2007-2012, he owned and operated the Cellar Rat wine shop in Wicker Park. Career In 2014, Schlabowske moved to Austin, Texas. There, he continued his collaboration with former members of The Meat Purveyors, and started a band called TV White. "Due to an illness in the family and the desire to buy an affordable home," Schlabowske returned to Milwaukee in 2017. Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is a performance rights organization in the United States. It collects blanket license fees from businesses that use music, entitling those businesses to play or sync any songs from BMI's repertoire of over 20.6 million musical works. On a quarterly basis, BMI distributes the money to songwriters, composers, and music publishers as royalties to those members whose works have been performed. In FY 2022, BMI collected $1.573 billion in revenues and distributed $1.471 billion in royalties. BMI's repertoire includes over 1.3 million songwriters and 20.6 million compositions. Pine Valley Cosmonauts (PVC) are a musical ensemble from Chicago, Illinois. History The group was initiated by Jon Langford (also of the Waco Brothers and The Mekons) as a covers group, with both repertory and cast of backing members constantly shifting. The name was first used for Langford's 1995 album of Johnny Cash cover songs. In 1998, Langford enlisted the help of a number of prominent alt-country musicians (including Neko Case, Alejandro Escovedo, and Robbie Fulks) for a full-length tribute album to Bob Wills. The PVC served next as the backing band for Kelly Hogan's second album, ''Beneath the Country Underdog;'' Hogan had provided vocals on the Wills tribute. Their next album, ''The Executioner's Last Songs'', was released in 2002 and is a collection of songs about death. Following this record's success, the group recorded two more albums of songs about death as benefits for the Illinois Coalition Against the Death Penalty. Bloodshot Records is an independent record label based in Chicago, Illinois, which specializes in alternative country. History Bloodshot Records was founded in 1994 by Nan Warshaw, Rob Miller, and Eric Babcock, who knew each other from jobs in the music industry and from being active in was then a burgeoning underground country-roots music scene. Warshaw had been promoting, booking, and managing bands for years and also worked as a publicist for the band Killbilly, which released a record on Flying Fish Records, where Babcock worked. Wreck was an indie rock band formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1988, and later based in Chicago. The Meat Purveyors were an American alternative country bluegrass band from Austin, Texas, United States. The Meat Purveyors consist of Bill Anderson (an Austin Music Hall of Fame inductee) on guitar, Jo Stanli Walston on vocals, Cherilyn diMond on upright bass, and Pete Stiles on mandolin.
