Dean Of Exeter
The Dean of Exeter is the head of the Chapter of Cathedral Church of Saint Peter in Exeter, England. The chapter was established by William Briwere, Bishop of Exeter (1224–44) who set up the offices of dean and chancellor of Exeter Cathedral, allowing the chapter to elect those officers. The deanery is at 10 The Close, Exeter. The current dean is Jonathan Greener. John Arundel (died 1504) was a medieval Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield and Bishop of Exeter. Biography Arundel was the son of Renfry Arundell, High Sheriff of Cornwall and was educated at the college of Canons Augustine in St. Columb and at Exeter College, Oxford. Arundel was appointed a Dean and Canons of Windsor, Canon of Windsor in 1479,''Fasti Wyndesorienses'', May 1950. S.L. Ollard. Lionel Woodville
Lionel Woodville (1447 – 23 June 1484) was a Bishop of Salisbury in England. Life Woodville was a fourth son of Richard Woodville, 1st Earl Rivers and Jacquetta of Luxembourg; his siblings included Elizabeth Woodville, Queen Consort from 1464 to 1483. In the late 1470s, Woodville became the first person in recorded history to receive an honorary degree (Doctor of Canon Law, DCL), from the University of Oxford. He was Chancellor of the University of Oxford from 1479 to 1483. Peter Courtenay
Peter Courtenay ( – 23 September 1492) was Bishop of Exeter (1478–87) and Bishop of Winchester (1487-92), and also had a successful political career during the tumultuous years of the Wars of the Roses. Origins Courtenay was the third son of Sir Philip Courtenay (d. 1463) of Powderham by Elizabeth Hungerford, daughter of Walter Hungerford, 1st Baron Hungerford (d. 1449), by his first wife Catherine Peverell, daughter of Sir Thomas Peverell, MP, of Parke and Hamatethy, Cornwall. He was a grandson of Sir Philip Courtenay (d. 1406) of Powderham, a younger son of Hugh Courtenay, 10th Earl of Devon (d. 1377). John Hals
John Hales (c. 1400-1490) (''alias'' Hals, Halse, etc.) was Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield (1459-1490). He was one of the ''Worthies of Devon'' of the biographer John Prince (d.1723). Origins Hales was the second son of John Hals (fl.1423) of Kenedon in the parish of Sherford, Devon (a Justice of the Common Pleas and in 1423 a Justice of the King's Bench) by his first wife, a daughter of the Mewye (''alias'' Mewy) family of Whitchurch near Tavistock, Devon. His great-uncle was Richard Hals (d.1418), a Canon of Exeter Cathedral in Devon, and Treasurer of Exeter Cathedral in 1400, who in 1414 was sent as Ambassador to Brittany.
