Dean Nalder
Dean Cambell Nalder (born 5 February 1966) is an Australian former politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia for the Liberal Party from 2013 to 2021, representing the seat of Alfred Cove until 2017, and Bateman following the 2017 electoral boundary re-distribution. At various times, he served as Minister for Transport, Minister for Finance and Minister for Agriculture and Food in the ministry of Premier Colin Barnett from 2014 to 2016. Following the Liberals' defeat at the 2017 state election, Nalder served in a number of shadow portfolios in the shadow ministries of Mike Nahan and Liza Harvey until resigning from the frontbench on 8 December 2020, following his announcement of retirement from politics at the next election. Minister For Transport (Western Australia)
Minister for Transport is a position in the government of Western Australia, currently held by Rita Saffioti of the Labor Party. The position was first created in 1945, in the ministry formed by Frank Wise, and has existed in almost every government since then. The minister is responsible for the Department for Transport. Prior to 1974, there was a separate position called the Commissioner of Railways (1883–1902) or the Minister for Railways (1902–1974), with the holder of the position having responsibility solely for Western Australia's railways (including the Western Australian Government Railways). Wesley College, informally known as Wesley, is an independent, day and boarding school for boys and girls (co-ed to Year 6 and boys only Years 7–12), situated in South Perth, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Crawford Nalder
Sir Crawford David Nalder (14 February 1910 – 8 December 1994) was an Australian politician who served as Deputy Premier of Western Australia from 1962 to 1971. He was leader of the Country Party in Western Australia from 1962 to 1973. Nalder was born in Katanning, Western Australia. A farmer, he was elected to Legislative Assembly at the 1947 state election, winning the seat of Wagin. He switched to the seat of Katanning at the 1950 election. Having served as the party's deputy leader since 1956, Nalder replaced Arthur Watts as leader of the Country Party in 1962. He maintained the existing coalition with the Liberal Party (led by David Brand), with the Brand government eventually being defeated at the 1971 election. Nalder retired from parliament in 1974 and was knighted later that year. Cambell Nalder
Cambell Crawford Nalder (20 December 1937 – 14 March 1987) was an Australian politician who served as a National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1986 to 1987, representing the seat of Narrogin. The son of Crawford Nalder, who later served as the state's Deputy Premier, Nalder was born in Wagin, a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Like his father, he went on to board at Wesley College, Perth, graduating in 1954. Nalder was elected to parliament at the 1986 state election, but died of cancer in March 1987, aged 49, having served just over a year. His death necessitated a by-election, which was won by National Party candidate Bob Wiese. Wheatbelt (Western Australia)
The Wheatbelt is one of nine regions of Western Australia defined as administrative areas for the state's regional development, and a vernacular term for the area converted to agriculture during colonisation. It partially surrounds the Perth metropolitan area, extending north from Perth to the Mid West region, and east to the Goldfields–Esperance region. It is bordered to the south by the South West and Great Southern regions, and to the west by the Indian Ocean, the Perth metropolitan area, and the Peel region. Wagin, Western Australia
Wagin is a town and shire in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately south-east of Perth on the Great Southern Highway between Narrogin and Katanning. It is also on State Route 107. The main industries are wheat and sheep farming. History The name of the town is derived from Wagin Lake, a usually dry salt lake south of the town. The lake's name is of Noongar origin, and was first recorded by a surveyor in 1869–72. It means "place of emus", or "site of the foot tracks from when the emu sat down". The first European explorer through the area was John Septimus Roe, the Surveyor General of Western Australia, in 1835 en route to Albany from Perth. Between 1835 and 1889 a few settlers eked a simple living by cutting sandalwood and shepherding small flocks of sheep. Land was granted to pastoralists in the Wagin area from the late 1870s.
