Dean is a small farming & forestry community in the North Branch Musquodoboit in the Musquodoboit Valley along the Halifax Regional Municipality/ Colchester County county line, in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, along Route 336. Other communities in the North Branch include Elmsvale, Greenwood, Upper Musquodoboit, and Moose River Gold Mines, among others. Transportation Route 336 runs north–south through Dean. The only other major road in the community is Woodside Rd, which leads to Trafalgar, in neighboring Guysborough County. There are other minor gravel/dirt roads in Dean. Upper Stewiacke is a small community located in Colchester County in central Nova Scotia. Upper Stewiacke can be reached by road via Route 289. Upper Stewiacke was founded in 1783 by Matthew Johnson, son of James Johnson, a Grantee of Truro, Nova Scotia. Johnson's supplies had come from Truro, some 20 miles away. Guysborough County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. History Taking its name from the Township of Guysborough, which was named in honour of Sir Guy Carleton, Guysborough County was created when Sydney County (Antigonish County) was divided in 1836. Guysborough County has had a large Black population since 1784. The Black Nova Scotian community in Guysborough is unique in that they descend almost entirely from Black Loyalists. Moose River Gold Mines, Nova Scotia
Moose River Gold Mines is a Canadian rural community located in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality. It is located at the junction of Moose River Road and Mooseland Road. No numbered highways run through Moose River Gold Mines. Gold was discovered in the area in 1866 and mining started in the 1870s. Interest waned around 1900 but rose in the 1930s. The community gained international attention in 1936 when three men were trapped in the mine. History Gold was first discovered in the area in 1866, but no mining took place until the 1870s when the area became known as the Moose River Gold District. Upper Musquodoboit is a forestry and farming community in the northeastern reaches of the Musquodoboit Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada within the Halifax Regional Municipality, from Downtown Halifax.
