Dead Reckoning (album)
''Dead Reckoning'' is the eighth studio album by progressive metal band Threshold. It is their first album since the departure of founding member Nick Midson and the last to feature long time vocalist Andrew "Mac" McDermott. It is also the only one to feature guest vocals (provided by Dan Swanö on two tracks) and their first album on their current label, Nuclear Blast. The song "Pilot in the Sky of Dreams" appeared on the 2008 film soundtrack '' In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale''. Before settling on the final title, the album had the working title of "Pilot in the Sky of Dreams". Many of the songs on the album use extensive flight and aviation metaphors. Threshold (band)
Threshold are an English progressive metal band formed in Surrey in the late 1980s. The guitarist and producer Karl Groom has been the band's only consistent member. History 1988–1992 Threshold began their career in 1988, initially playing covers of metal groups like Ratt and Testament (band), Testament. As they continued playing together, they began to write their own songs, and eventually stopped playing covers altogether. Early recordings were released locally on cassette under the band name "If Not, Why?". They played their first gig at The Compasses in Egham, Surrey, with Jon Jeary on vocals and Ian Bennett on bass. In 1992, they signed their first record deal, and after adding vocalist Damian Wilson to the group alongside guitarists Karl Groom and Nick Midson, bassist Jon Jeary and drummer Tony Grinham, produced their first commercial recording, "Intervention," which was released on a Dutch progressive rock compilation album. Dead Reckoning
In navigation, dead reckoning is the process of calculating the current position of a moving object by using a previously determined position, or fix, and incorporating estimates of speed, heading (or direction or course), and elapsed time. The corresponding term in biology, to describe the processes by which animals update their estimates of position or heading, is path integration. Advances in navigational aids that give accurate information on position, in particular satellite navigation using the Global Positioning System, have made simple dead reckoning by humans obsolete for most purposes. However, inertial navigation systems, which provide very accurate directional information, use dead reckoning and are very widely applied. Johanne James is the drummer for United Kingdom, British progressive metal band Threshold (band), Threshold. He joined the band officially, replacing Mark Heaney, in 2001, to record the album ''Hypothetical (album), Hypothetical'', which occurred after having toured with the band in support of the albums ''Extinct Instinct'' and ''Clone (Threshold album), Clone''. He also fronts the three-piece band Kyrbgrinder, in which he is the vocalist and drummer. He is also the drummer for Symphony of Pain. Most packaging is rigid or semi-rigid and designed to protect the media from scratches and other types of exposure damage. Jewel case A jewel case is a compact disc case that has been used since the compact disc was first released in 1982. Matthew James Bellamy (born 9 June 1978) is an English singer, songwriter and producer. He is the lead vocalist, guitarist, pianist, and lyricist for the English rock band Muse. He is recognised for his eccentric stage persona, wide tenor vocal range and musicianship. Bellamy was born in Cambridge. His family moved to Teignmouth, Devon, where he formed Muse with schoolmates. Karl Groom is a British guitarist and record producer. He is best known as a founding and the only constant member of the progressive metal band Threshold (band), Threshold. His production and mixing credits are mainly with progressive and power metal bands. Musician Groom is the guitarist of Threshold (band), Threshold, having formed the band in 1988. He has since produced and released twelve studio albums and is currently signed to Nuclear Blast. In addition, a live DVD entitled ''Critical Energy'' was released in 2004 whilst on the Inside Out Music label. Groom also played guitar in Mercy Train, Shadowland (band), Shadowland, and Strangers on a Train, all during the mid-1990s. Progressive metal (often shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or quasi-classical compositions of the latter.
