De Rips
De Rips is a village east of Helmond and Eindhoven in southern part of the Netherlands. Until the late 1990s it formed the municipality of Bakel and Milheeze alongside Milheeze and Bakel, but in 1997 it was forced to merge with the larger Gemert municipality. The village was first mentioned in 1544 as Ripse Paal, and refers to a border pole close to the stream Rips. De Rips was located in the Peel, a large heath area. In 1871, was bought by Cornelis Carp who built a farm in 1875 on land which was named after the border pole. The land was cultivated and more farms were built. Peel, Netherlands
De Peel is a region in the southeast of the Netherlands that straddles the border between the provinces of North Brabant and Limburg. The region is best known for the extraction of peat for fuel, which had been going on since the Middle Ages but is no longer done. For this purpose many canals were dug to remove the water and for ships to move out the peat. An area that has remained partly untouched by the peat-cutting was turned into a National Park, the Groote Peel. It has a size of 13.4 km². It is one of the most bird-rich areas in Western Europe, with resident black-necked grebes and sometimes migrating common cranes in October/November. The terrain is varied with inaccessible peat swamps, lakes, heath land and sand ridges. The present swamp and some of the lakes were created by the cutting of peat. Gemert is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Gemert-Bakel. Gemert was a separate municipality until 1997, when it merged with Bakel. Milheeze (dialect: ''Millus'') is a village in the Dutch province North Brabant. Milheeze is part of the municipality Gemert-Bakel. The village was first mentioned in 1332 as Milleis. The etymology is unclear. Milheeze developed in the Late Middle Ages around a chapel. The chapel was replaced by the St Willibrordus Church in 1844-1845 which was built on the foundations of the chapel. Milheeze was home to 579 people in 1840. The monastery Mariaoord was founded in Milheeze in 1935.
