De La Salle Palmerston FC is an Irish rugby team. The senior team currently play in the Leinster League The Leinster League is the second tier of rugby in Leinster, behind the Leinster Senior League. The senior side had a short spell in Division 1 starting in the 1998-99 season. The club grounds, Kirwan Park are located between Stepaside and Kilternan. The club in its present form was founded in 1985, after the amalgamation of the De La Salle (1965) and Palmerston (1899) clubs. The senior club field a first XV, seconds, thirds, fourths, women's, special needs and an under-20 team. The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) ( ga, Cumann Rugbaí na hÉireann) is the body managing rugby union in the island of Ireland (both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). Leinster Rugby ( ga, Rugbaí Laighean) is one of the four professional provincial rugby union teams from the island of Ireland and the most successful Irish team domestically. They compete in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup. Leinster play their home games primarily at the RDS Arena, although larger games are played in the Aviva Stadium when the capacity of the RDS is insufficient. Before moving to the RDS in 2005, Leinster's traditional home ground was Donnybrook Stadium, in Dublin 4.
