Bettie De Jong
Bettie de Jong (born May 1, 1933 in Sumatra, Indonesia) is a Dutch rehearsal director and former lead dancer at the Paul Taylor Dance Company. In November 2007 Bettie de Jong received the Dance Magazine Award to recognize her contributions to dance. Early years De Jong was born in Tanjungbalai on Sumatra and moved to the Netherlands in 1946. After Indonesia she continued her early training in dance and mime in Wageningen. De Jong lived for more than 35 years with her husband Victor Laredo. Career Her first professional engagement was with the Netherlands Pantomime Company. Marinus De Jong
Marinus de Jong (14 January 1891, Oosterhout - 13 July 1984, Ekeren) was a Belgian composer and pianist of Dutch origin. Biography Marinus de Jong was born in Oosterhout (The Netherlands) to a working-class family with twelve children. His musical talent became apparent early in his life: he was accepted into the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp (Belgium) at the age of fifteen, where he was taught by Lodewijk Mortelmans and Emile Bosquet. At the start of World War I De Jong returned to his native town to recover from a burn-out, but he returned to Belgium after the Armistice of 11 November 1918. He gained fame as a pianist and toured throughout Europe and the United States between 1920 and 1922. Afterwards he married Johanna Corthals, with whom he settled in Kapellenbos, and in 1926 De Jong traded in his Dutch nationality for a Belgian one. Jacqueline de Jong (born 1939) is a Dutch painter, sculptor and graphic artist. She was born in the Dutch town of Hengelo to Jewish parents. Faced with the German invasion, they went into hiding. After an abortive escape attempt to England, her father Hans remained in Amsterdam while her mother and she made for Switzerland, accompanied by the Dutch painter Max van Dam. At the border they were captured by the French police, but just as they were about to be deported to the Drancy internment camp, they were rescued by the resistance, who helped them over the border. Florence De Jong
Florence De Jong (née Baga) (1894 – 1990) was an English theatre and cinema organist. De Jong was born in Holborn, London, and learned piano at school. She had three sisters, all professional musicians, as was their father. The youngest sister, Ena Baga, was also an organist, billed as "Queen of the Keyboard". As well as cinemas, she also played on cruise liners. She appeared as a castaway on the BBC Radio programme ''Desert Island Discs'' on 7 April 1973. Falco (De Jong) Luneau (7 August 1984) is an Austrian-Dutch singer-songwriter. He is best known for his 2006 participation in the Austrian version of ''American Idol'', '' Starmania'' and his subsequent formation of the boyband “jetzt anders!” with several other participants, notably Tom Neuwirth, who in his Conchita Wurst persona won the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. Spinvis is a Dutch one-man music project centred on Erik de Jong (born 2 February 1961, Spijkenisse). Using experimental, lo-fi music, Spinvis has earned two gold records in the Netherlands, and performed sold-out tours in both the Netherlands and Belgium. Biography ''Spinvis'' In 2001, Erik de Jong, or Spinvis, at the age of 40, sent a three-song demo to the Dutch indie label, Excelsior Recordings. Within two weeks, a record deal was signed. The label decided to keep the songs that had been recorded by Spinvis on his home computer. With some minor mixing touch-ups these songs comprised Spinvis' first album, released in the Netherlands on 1 April 2002. The music press responded with positive reviews and the album reached number one in ''Oor'' magazine's Moordlijst, an alternative chart in the Netherlands.
