Dutch Name
Dutch names consist of one or more given names and a surname. The given name is usually gender-specific. Dutch given names A Dutch child's birth and given name(s) must be officially registered by the parents within 3 days after birth. It is not uncommon to give a child several given names. Usually the first one is for daily use, often in a diminutive form. Traditionally, Catholics often chose Latinized names for their children, such as ''Catharina'' and ''Wilhelmus'', while Protestants more commonly chose simple Dutch forms such as ''Trijntje'' and ''Willem''. In both cases, names were often shortened for everyday use (''Wilhelmus'' and ''Willem'' became ''Wim''). In 2014 39% of Dutch children received one name, another 38% were given two names, 20% had three names, 2% got four names and only a few hundred children had five or more given names. Dutch (Netherlands) naming law (given names) The Dutch naming legislation allows nearly all given names unless they are too similar t ...

Jelle Taeke De Boer
Jelle Taeke de Boer (February 26, 1908 – October 7, 1970) was a Dutch art collector born in Meppel, Drenthe. He grew up in a poor family, with his mother dying when he was four years old, and his father an alcoholic. During the depression of the 1930s, Jelle was having trouble raising a family, yet found motivation in Vincent van Gogh as a role model. He eventually became nearly obsessed with him, collecting literature and eventually anything attributed to him. His mission in life was to find the nearly 800 pieces that could be traced back to Van Gogh. He quickly became an expert on the subject of the painter. Authenticity During their lives, famous impressionists like Vincent van Gogh, Manet, Monet and Cézanne, were ostracized and many times had to trade their artworks for some food or a night’s lodging. In this way many pieces have seemed to be lost forever. In the case of Van Gogh, perhaps even hundreds. By 1960 Jelle de Boer accumulated nearly 400 works, 100 of whi ...

Jan Hendrik De Boer
Jan Hendrik de Boer (19 March 1899 – 25 April 1971) was a Dutch physicist and chemist. De Boer was born in Ruinen, De Wolden, and died in The Hague. He studied at the University of Groningen and was later employed in industry. Together with Anton Eduard van Arkel, de Boer developed a chemical transport reaction for titanium, zirconium, and hafnium known as the crystal bar process. In a closed vessel the metal reacts with iodine at elevated temperature forming the iodide. At a tungsten filament of 1700 °C the reverse reaction occurs, and the iodine and the metal are set free. The metal forms a solid coating at the tungsten filament and the iodine can react with additional metal, resulting in a steady turnover. ::M + 2I2 (>400 °C) → MI4 ::MI4 (1700 °C) → M + 2I2 De Boer became a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1940, and foreign member in 1947.
