De Ateliers
De Ateliers (formerly Ateliers '63) is an independent art school in located in Amsterdam. It was founded in Haarlem in 1963, among others by Ger Lataster, Mari Andriessen, Nic Jonk, Theo Mulder and Wessel Couzijn. This "group of established artists... agreed that the formative process of fine artists should be more individually directed than the learning of a trade or the studying of a science." De Ateliers offers a postgraduate program, where young artists can work in their own workshops with accompanied by renowned artists and critics. Students are called 'participants'. They are regularly visited in their studios by the tutors and guests from The Netherlands and abroad for individual feedbacks. After many years located in Haarlem, the institute moved to Amsterdam to the former building of the Rijksakademie at the Stadhouderskade in the Amsterdam city center. Carel Visser
Carel Nicolaas Visser (3 May 1928 – 1 March 2015) was a Dutch sculptor. He is considered an important representative of Dutch abstract-minimalist constructivism in sculpture. Life and work Visser was born on 3 May 1928 in Papendrecht. From 1948 until 1949 Visser studied architecture at the Technical University in Delft and subsequently from 1949 until 1951 sculpture at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague. After study in England and France, he settled as an independent artist in 1952 in Amsterdam. In his early career Visser created originally styled iron bird sculptures and had his first solo exhibition in 1954 at Galerie Martinet in Amsterdam. Pauline Curnier Jardin
Pauline Curnier Jardin (born 1980, Marseille, France) is a visual artist working mainly in film, installation, performance and drawing. She lives in Rome and Berlin. In her work, Curnier Jardin has revisited Joan of Arc, Bernadette Soubirous, the Goddess Demeter, the birth of Jesus and his saint Family, the Anatomical theatre of the Renaissance, as well as pagan and catholic rites in Central and Southern Europe. Nina Canell (born 1979) is a sculpture and installation artist born in Växjö, Sweden and educated at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dublin, Ireland. Dominic van den Boogerd (*1959) is a Dutch art critic and art historian situated in Amsterdam. Van den Boogerd has been active as an art critic since 1983. From 1993 to 1995, he was chief editor of ''Metropolis M''. Joep van Lieshout (born 1963), is a Dutch artist and sculptor born in Ravenstein, Netherlands, and founder of Atelier Van Lieshout (AVL). Thomas Houseago is a British contemporary artist. He lives in Los Angeles, California, and also has American citizenship. Much of his work has been figurative sculpture, often on a large scale, in plaster, bronze or aluminium; his large plaster ''Baby'' was included in the Whitney Biennial in 2010. He has also made architectural installations. Life and career Houseago grew up in Leeds in West Yorkshire, where his mother was a teacher. Marlene Dumas
Marlene Dumas (born 3 August 1953) is a South African artist and painter currently based in the Netherlands. Life and work Dumas was born in 1953 in Cape Town, South Africa and grew up in Kuils River in the Western Cape, where her father had a vineyard. Dumas witnessed the system of Apartheid during her childhood. Dumas began painting in 1973 and showed her political concerns and reflections on her identity as a white woman of Afrikaans descent in South Africa. Keren Cytter ( he, קרן ציטר; born 22 August 1977) is an Israeli visual artist and writer. Biography Cytter, born 22 August 1977, spent her childhood in Israel and went on to study visual arts at the Avni Institute of Art and Design, Tel Aviv. After finding success in various galleries in her home country, she moved to Amsterdam on a scholarship from De Ateliers where she studied with Willem de Rooij and Marlene Dumas.
