DeSoto Square
DeSoto Square Mall was an enclosed shopping mall serving Bradenton, Florida, United States. It was built in 1973 and permanently closed on April 30, 2021. One lone anchor store, Hudson's Furniture, remains open. History Starting in November 1971, an entity named Bradenton Mall Corporation would buy along US 301 and Cortez Road for $1.6 million from 32 property owners. Bradenton's mayor, A.K. Leach, was concerned that the mall which was outside of city limits would impact retailers in the downtown area but he thought they would be able to manage through it. The center would be built by Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation in 1973. It was originally to be called Bradenton Mall, but the name was determined unacceptable by city officials because the mall was not located within city limits. Bradenton ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Manatee County, Florida, Manatee County, Florida, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the city's population is 55,698. History Late 18th and early 19th centuries A settlement established by Maroons or escaped slaves named Angola, Florida, Angola existed in Bradenton's present area starting in the late 1700s and ending in 1821. The Mall at University Town Center is a shopping mall located in Sarasota County, Florida, United States, just south of the Manatee County line near the planned community of Lakewood Ranch. It opened on October 16, 2014 and is anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Apple and Dillard's. History The Mall at University Town Center began in 2002 when Benderson Corporation purchased the land and announced their intention to build the land into a regional mall. Namdar Realty Group is an American shopping mall investment company based in Great Neck, New York. They primarily purchase shopping malls with partner Mason Asset Management. Namdar and Mason are both family owned, and as of 2021, own over 400 properties including 100 plus malls. Strategy Namdar and Mason primarily purchase malls for low prices, with various problems, but do not invest in improving them. The deals for these malls are done in cash. Most malls they purchase are in markets considered B and C grade. Because of this low price/maintenance, they have a high return on investment.
